so why should I spring for them? at Lt General I tend to think the Fish carrier is the best ship on the klingon side.

Convince me I'm wrong

Should you?
I think that really depends on what you're trying to do, and even then, I think it's mostly just if you like it or not.
As far as convincing you, I don't presume to be able to do that. About anything :-P
I don't see it as a must-have. It's cool, but not a necessity.

I can only speak for myself, and why I like it.
For myself, I think it looks great. Especially for my Klingon eng.
With my eng's, I tend to focus on tanking, and I find that the Bortas is well suited for it.
The extra eng console on the War cruiser helps. The uni officer slots allows for greater adaptability for certain situations. Higher hull HP and crew count (Vs the Vor'cha retro) is also a plus.
Those are my reasons for why it appeals to me.
For what it's worth :p

You shouldn't.

Unless you want to, I guess.
But they're not really better at anything than the other ship options.

I personally don't like the nose of the ship. I think its much too thick. If the nose had a similar shape to the Vor'Kang's (thick in the middle, but much thinner on the sides), I think it'd look a lot better.

Maybe its just me being vain, but that really keeps me from getting the ship. (And, my pocketbook is thanking my vanity, I think.)

There is no best ship its all in how you use them. Although the bortasqu' has a special element no other ships have and not talking about their consoles. They pretty much are great ships at being able to hybridize beams and cannons into one setup. Extensive damage to whatever placement your target is to you although with quads or DHC's I usually limit it just one of those a single cannon 2 beams front, then 2 turrets and 2 beams rear...

I was against its design but took several ideas along with my own and meshed it out together for a very stable setup. The only thing I am iffy about is I only have 3 feds but have around 12 kdf toons but not really sure If i want the ody pack but the bortasqu' pack yeah its worth getting imo.

I'm exactly the opposite. I have mostly fed toons and two klingon. as i levelled it was strictly BoPs, transitioning to the orion flight deck cruiser. I did buy the Gauramba amd Kar-fi. i have ZERO cruiser experience in the KDF. the Oddy variants were intriguing, I liked the escort at first but now rarely use it. I switched to saucer seper and wit a tact configuration can outgun an excelsior rather easily at the expense of being squishier. the one drawback is equipping the consoles to get the cooldown bonus really limits your consoles for everything else.

thta's why I'm feeling out the bortasqu

If you enjoyed or hated the Oddyssey the experience will be comparable in the Bortasque

In short: pure Firepower.

No other ship can mount an arsenal like a Bortasque tactical.

- 4 turrets back
- 4 DHC/Front (or 3DHC+1 Torp)
- the disruptor auto cannon console
- 5 tactical consoles (Translate: up to +150% weapon power,)
- Lt. tactical as well as an universal Lt.Cmdr and an universal ensign, what translates in a cruiser with CRF1 and CRF2.

-> don't see it as a cruiser, see it as a kind of "siege ship": This build is useless in PvP, as it turns like a drunken whale and has only a 45 attack angle. But in STFs this goes through spheres, cubes and structures like a hot knive trough butter.
