Missing additional character slot for current/ lapsed Gold Members
I just want to take a moment to bring to light a off subject in your post. You seem not to like the idea of PVP and or PVP in general. But if we look at your signature you are trying to get people to join your fleet saying you are active in PVP (as well as other parts of the game) To me it looks as though you are black calling the kettle white? Just something to think over!!!
My fleet has dozens of players, and we have an active space wing and an active ground squad. I, personally, do not like PvP, but then again, I am not the Tactical Officer, Wing Commander or Squad Commander. Most (if not all) of the other officers, as well as many members, in the fleet do participate in PvP (at least in organized matches). Also, one of our officers is actively trying to gather support and open an inter-fleet PvP league. I would probably not fight in the matches themselves, but I completely support this and similar endeavors (as long as I can avoid the fighting and not be forced into it).
My Prediction, may I eat these words...(please)
It'll be a just fancy private social area, at best it'll have some vendors, bank, exchange, etc.
It'd be great if it had missions associated/accessed with it, but, I kinda doubt it.
Yup. I'm looking at this as very likely the same thing as City Of's SG and VG bases. A useless time sink where the last surviving member of a fleet will wander around a month after it's built wondering where everyone went. I'm expecting a private tea area that serves no rational purpose with a diilthium sink, Lobi store, market interface, and once you've spent ten or twenty million dilithium a shipyard where you can do the same damn things that you can do at ds9 for free. I'm sure they'll try to make it viable for pvp, but I'm expecting all the wrong things to be destructible and require a further insane and unreasonable amount of dilithium to fix.
This entire project makes me think what I commonly do when I think of Cryptic. 'Heart's was in the right place, but the ball dropped around execution'.
I think our good friend Altexist nailed it when he posted this as the platform for what we're likely to expect from starbases. Just look to PW's faction bases.
I think he's right - this is exactly how fleets will "build" bases.
Oh god, I just read this. I am praying, praying, praying Cryptic isn't stupid enough to use this model and guarantee the death of their game. This is crazy. You MUST have a minimum number of players or your starbase and all that you've invested in it dies from starvation? That's just.. I don't even have words for how wrong and bad and fail this concept is. I'm hoping the fact that this game's crafting is so broken even the devs don't want to force players to use a material conversion nightmare like the creatures inflicting that game on the world do.
Holy crap. If they resemble anything even similar to this horror, Cryptic can breathe a sigh of relief. I'll be gone, gone, gone. Well, they can breathe it for two or three months until the rest of the players with an IQ above 110 depart with me and the game shuts down.
They said heretic is working on starbases. The guy did a superb job with the doff system and i have a lot of faith in him to get starbases right.
My only worry on that score is whether he's been saddled with any outside constraints on how he sets it up. But yeah, I have faith in his ability to design a system that works for everybody.
One difference is that he collected a lot of feedback while the DOFF design was underway and yet Cryptic hasn't solicited similar feedback about starbases.
