I love this game but one thing I been wondering. When they picked the Opposeing Faction to the Federation why did they pick the Klingons who by canon are still allies insted of a canon enamy faction like the Romulans or Cardassions. The Orions Nassicans & Gorn would have fit with them too

I sometimes wonder why there is even a permanent opposing faction at all.

Perpetual Entertainment's vision of STO envisioned the Klingons remaining as strong allies of the Federation, and having the Romulans seriously consider becoming a part of the Federation itself. All players would have been obstensibly Feds, with different subfactions to choose from (e.g. a fleet that emphasizes combat, one that prefers diplomacy).

In fact, according to this Massively article, when Cryptic took over, they even explored having Klingons fighting alongside the Feds on a regular basis - see the bottom half of the image where a KDF Captain of a BoP issues orders...to Starfleet crewmen. The Starfleet combadge on the Ferengi was a nice touch

Alas, the prevailing notion these days is that MMOs "thrive on conflict". So it seems that the Star Trek IP has been airlocked in favour of stacks of Benji Franklins that could be gained from demonizing the Klinks yet again...
