# 1 DPS Cruiser
05-24-2012, 06:36 AM
I currently have a Lvl 50 MVE Tac MVE escort that I switch between a DHC build and a Beam Boat with torp. I've gotten a little bored with it since I'm waiting on some more level 50 fleet members to do STF's with me instead of Pug's, so I've decided to try and build a Kirk clone Tactical Cruiser and see how it does.I have read and read that Cruisers are meant to be Healers. Well I want a Kirk clone so I want to build a DPS Cruiser with a Tactical Alt toon. Anybody got any suggestions on the best way to go about building a Dps Cruiser. I currently at level LC 17. So is there any DPs cruisers that actually work, I'm not a healer , I've tried and I just don't have the timing for it or mines. I want to be able to go in blow crap up and tank while doing so

You are correct in that you won't find a "true DPS" cruiser build. But, there are ways to maximize your DPS.

I would suggest to use either a sovereign or a Galaxy Dreadnought. On the sovy, have at least one dual beam bank upfront. I would also suggest using at least 2 turrets aft to maximize forward firepower. Otherwise use all beams with one torp. Using anti-proton weapons with the omega force stf set for the tetryon glider will help too.

Using a Galaxy X is obvious. You can mount dual cannons.

Good luck.

7 beams +1 torpedo, FAW + Torp Spread, that should do a decent dmg in STF's and fleet actions. The ship? D'kora or Sovereign, the Dreadnought is a waste of money.

Excelsior Retrofit, or Tac Odyssey would probably suit you best.

The Dreadnought can fit Dual Heavy Cannons, but it is very slow (will likely change a bit with the planned C Store version gaining saucer seperation) and loses a Tac Console slot and the ability to slot LtCom level Tac abilities.

The Excelsior Retrofit is quite hardy and capable of some decent DPS with an above average turn rate (for Fed Cruisers), but suffers from having space for only one Tac BOFF, and an extra Eng Ensign BOFF slot which is largely useless (I suppose you could stack two copies of EPTW1 then run EPTS1/EPTS2, but I'd still greatly prefer another Tac BOFF instead).

Best of all worlds is probably currently a C-Store Tac Odyssey (for the extra Tac Console and Weapons power bonus) combined with the Chevron Seperation Console (from the Eng Odyssey) to vastly improve its turn rate. A BOFF layout on the Odyssey of [Tac LtCom] and [Eng Ensign] allows you to chain a copy of EPTS1 fulltime along with a load of self/allied buffs and heals (Example: HE1, TSS2, RSP1, Aux2SIF3, ES2) plus a load of useful Tac abilites for more survivability and DPS (example: TT1, APD1, TT1, BFAW2, TS3).

It's not quite as powerful as an Escort, but it's significantly tougher and has the highest number of Tac BOFF powers available to any Fed Cruiser.

Of course, you don't really NEED the extra survivability in PVE if you're already intimately familiar with Space ESTFs... in that case I'd probably stick with a well-setup/equipped Fleet Escort. It can still tank Elite Tac Cubes toe-to-toe, you don't need to spend real money on it, and it's as close to a Cruiser as an Escort can get, rather than the other way around.
