I know that this is a very newbish question, despite that I've been playing non-stop since the game went F2P (and my account dates back to 2 years ago from a 5 day free trial,) but it's one I've never been able to really figure out.

I know that Purple quality BOFFs are suppose to be better than common white ones, but other than the occasional rare Commander skill, do they actually have any type of advantage over others?

I'll give you my own example.

I've been using the same two Tactical officers since I created my character. One of them is a human who has Scatter Shot 1, Rapid Fire 2, High Yield 3. She is a common quality officer that I obtained just as a reward for doing the missions in the Klingon story arc as I leveled up.

My other tactical officer is the one I chose to start with during my tutorial level. An Andorian female who has Rapid Fire 3 for a commander ability and a torpedo volley ability for Lt. Cmdr. With mmy Escort setup, I'm able to use RF2, HY3, and an AOE for both cannons and torpedos, and produce some fairly effective DPS.

Both of their ground abilities have been adjusted to my choosing, since they didn't start with any super rare abilities there.

I haven't acquired a single tactical officer who has HY3 ever since, and believe me, I never pass up a chance to complete any bridge officer acquisition missions through the DOFF system or whatever.

As far as my setup goes, I have no reason to ever replace either of those officers. I would imagine that a higher quality officer might have a better chance of getting a superior trait or something like that, right?

I'm just not seeing any reason to replace what I have. Are there really any key differences?

Their passive traits are better, giving them bettter resistances, stealth detection, threat generation, you name it. Most of those traits are ground based, so you won't notice much difference in space and should be fine keeping your old officers.
When you assemble a ground team you should try to get blues and purples.

Personally I found the special doffs are really good for ground.
I use the Photonic Science as a doctor, Android engineer, Borg science as controller/debuffer and depending on mood Jem Hadar or Diplomacy Gorn as tactical.
Very effective combo, especially when you put them into STF gear.
These days I can order them to attack Borg or Breen on elite difficulty, go and look at some flowers, return and see they succeeded very efficiently on their own.
Not sure "whites" could fo it quite the same.

Ahh, thank you for the quick reply.

I'll need to buy some more BOFF slots if I am to make use of the Reman, Borg, Jem'Hadar, or Breen officers, but that has always been on my list of things to do.

On the fed side you can get humans with leadership and saurains with effeciancy to improve your ship in space on KDF the leathian whatever can be found eith effeciancy. Those space traits are only on purple Boffs as far as i know. My Oddy tank has 5 human leadership bridge crew and a borg, Reman, jem hadar, breen ground team. My KDF tac uses a leatherin bridge crew.

One question, are the passive bonuses stackable, dealing with the Leadership trait?

Last I heard Leadership was broken. Did that get fixed?

Saurian Efficiency is not limited to purple officers, I have one with a "basic" trait, which is only available on whites and greens. IIRC, whites have 2 basics, greens have 1 basic, blues have a standard and a superior, and purples have 2 superiors...
Well, with the upgrade announcement leaving NX and Connie fans in the dust again, can we restart / revisit the T5 Connie and NX threads - since they will no longer be "truly" endgame ships... (after we get the T5 versions, it'll be time to see them added to the T5U upgrade charts too...

To the best of my knowledge, BOff leadership is indeed broken.

A few months ago I did some testing on this. I actually timed it (it was pretty hard, believe me), with the crew splattered and shields down, and in battle no less, with one engineering BOff slotted in.

The hull regeneration rate was the same. I think that I also tried it when crew was at full, and it was the same then, too (don't recall directly).

I have heard reports to the contrary, but most of them don't try to provide any evidence, and one of them basically said that they were right because they shot their friend in a PvP match or something.

In any case, while it's possible it's been fixed for BOffs, and my testing wasn't perfect, I've heard nothing of it actually being fixed, and seen no evidence to the contrary myself even though I tend to have 2-3 human BOffs slotted in on my ships.

That said, the human CAPTAIN leadership attribute is fully functional.
