Thanks SO MUCH for all your support, and we'll see you in-game!
Hmm, there are a few reasons...
Main one: I have several friends who play and I like the whole team interaction thing, talking on voice comms and all that kind of thing.
Secondary: It is the only Trek game that has any kind of population.
And I've always felt it has great potential if they would just develop it in the right direction.
And even though I am disappointed in the level of development so far of the KDF, for some reason I still hope.
And finally, I've been LTS since Beta, it's paid for.
Not too mention I have invested even more than the cost of the LTS in Cstore points to buy several ships and other items. I am even guilty of buying a few keys, but I've been cured of that.
It's the only game...
EVE is not my thing at all.
I get to pilot a ship. I have some fun...for a while. I like fragging stuff. I have so many different ships and three classes to combine and enjoy. Lots of different playstyles (although only min-maxing work for pvp/high-end pve).
I can go ground and combat there too.
I do enjoy the core of the combat system...even though it's largely broken and has lots that needs fixing to make it really enjoyable all the time instead of at times frustrating, annoying, rage quit material.
It's Star Trek.
That, in short, is why I'm still here.
But, as a troglodyte gamer and an amateur designer, I look at this game, and I *frumple*.
So much potential...so disappointing.
Eventually, I too shall leave like many others before me.
The question is, will it be next year or two years from now.
Hmm, interesting. Nope your right, if your future is at stake, then yes, you bring whatever you can, including a Sopworth Camel if you must.
Surely your not implying that the future of STO is at stake, so bring whatever you can?
(Still like your thinking though)...
Well, it kind of is....
*serious* STO is still a Star Trek game even if it's clogged with Lock Box refuse. It's also the only MMO i have ever played that i've had fun with. As Grindy as it can get, STO can still offer up some hilariously badass moments. Like saving a friend from the borg, gravity welling a group of enemies and watching as they all die, killing a Unimatrix without dying, or getting the perfect timing of abandon ship and taking an obnoxious PvPer with you, the list goes on.
While it's sad to see the game stagnate right now, it's moments like those, and the Star Trek IP that tell me this game could be one of the greats. The friends i've made, the stuff i've done, the shenanigans i've pulled off. I stay because this game could be a bright spot in the Star Trek legacy. It's not there yet, not nearly, but it could be.
until I can find a way to convince CBS to strip the IP from Cryptic this is the only resource available to me for continuing ST.
You do realize CBS are pure greedy evil who cares not a spit over the ST IP and only see it as potential hanging $$-fruit?

People don't loath the game, they loath the unfinished, buggy, state it is in. They wish it fixed.
They wish to see the game as a beautiful, living, happy person. Instead of a broken doll in shambles and pain.
People don't loath the devs behind it.
The devs, for what they could with what very little they have, have done a superb job.
But truth/fact being, simply, it is not enough to suffice in sustaining a MMO. In particular one baring an IP the magnitude of Star Trek (see SWG for reference).
People do loath the lack of honest communication between themselves and the devs.
People do loath priorities not being explained to them, or being fed PR lines as if their intelligence is being underestimated.
Those who did harbor such enmities towards them have long parted from STO.

This is a perfect example of what I meant in my earlier post. You realize that CBS is a corporation that is incapable of feeling emotions and that it's sole reason for existing is to make money for it's shareholders, right? And CBS does care about it's property: that's why Cryptic has to get things approved through them to have them in game. CBS does this approval with all products that are licensed with the Star Trek name, because they don't want something inappropriate representing Star Trek. Their definition of inappropriate.
Now you might not agree with the decisions CBS makes, and that's your prerogative. But to say they don't care about the IP is just flatly wrong. If that was so, they wouldn't as aggressively pursue copyright violators and those who make unlicensed products and they wouldn't be involved at all with the process of Cryptic putting stuff in the game. You might not think they're doing the right things but in their eyes they are. And since they own the franchise, that's their decision to make.
But as a company, CBS shouldn't expected to focus on anything other than making money. If I was a shareholder, that's the #1 goal I would want them to have. Same as any business. They're in the business of making money. If they weren't, well, they would be a non-profit or some other entity rather than a for-profit business.
1.) I want to finish my Youtube Let's Play series of STO I started when the game went Free to Play. It was meant as a guide for free to play players, to show them each mission, and how you can play the game well. It was also meant as just a general Let's Play series for those interested in STO. I include lots of commentary on the game and how to succeed in it. I plan to finish my series, which is still quite a ways from finishing, and I'll be doing STF guides and what not as well. So, that keeps me in the game cause I want to do that for people interested in STO, I find enjoyment in it. youtube.com/JustGaming4Us is where it is at.
2.) I want to finish getting all the sets on my three main characters. I have cut down my characters to 3 main characters I want to keep, a SCI, ENG and TAC. I've got all the ground and space sets on my SCI and ENG, and am now working on my TAC. Once I get all the gear obtainable via grinding STFs, I will be done with that goal.
After that? I have no idea what I'm going to do next. I mean, I've been playing the game for 3 years, since it was in Open Beta. I've done everything you can do. Once I finish my Let's Play series on Youtube, and finish getting everything via the new STFs, what is there left for me to do? Nothing really. My future in STO after that will depend on Cryptic giving me new stuff to play with, hopefully in the form of new content.
