For the sake of amusement I think we could use a opinion poll to lighten the mood around the forums.

Rank your favorite shows - rational for that listing.

Rank your favorite Movies- rational for that

If you wanna get in depth list your favorite episode and your least favorite episode.

Here is mine.

Movies first.

1. Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan- Its got everything from drama, action, excellent ship to ship combat, Khan, and of course emotional tug.

2. Star Trek First Contact- Again this could be a case of 1a and 1b with Wrath of Khan since It has Picard struggling with a horrible event in his life as the Borg are trying to assimilate Earth in the past. It has ship to ship action for the battle of sector 001 and a aspect of ship invasion.

3. Star Trek IV The Voyage Home- This one was a fair amount of comedy and yet a good entry in the TOS movies. Also a very good environmental message about mankinds immature attitude to consume everything.

4. Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country- The Swan Song for the Original Crew was a very good film that closed out this era of Star Trek. The lack of action sequences was further proof of the aging TOS crew so they had to play mystery, thriller, and political intrigue.

5. Star Trek XI(2009)- This film with its plot holes and less achieving character development still was an impressive and nostalgic entry for old time fans. Given seeing Spock again as a very old version of this character was good to see him. The action was top notch as expected and the special effects were also top notch.

6. Star Trek III The Search for Spock- This entry was one of the few decent entries as it had a lot of things to take care of after the previous film. As this movie dealt with rebirth of SPock and Kirk's attempt to sacrifice all to save his friend.

7. Star Trek Generations- This was a good starting point for the TNG cast and a fond farewell to a few left over TOS characters. Kirks death was the breaking point of this film as the beginning of the film was a better end for the seemingly eternal Captain.

8. Star Trek Insurrection- Not the best Star Trek movie and had very little go right.

9.Star Trek The Motion Picture- Same as the above and could have been a great film if it had fixed its pacing and had more action to it.

10. Star Trek V The Final Frontier- This film had a interesting concept in finding God and had some interesting emotions behind the three main characters. This film as I had read somewhere had a 3rd of the movie cut.

11. Star Trek Nemesis- OMG, again like the above movie could have been a lot better had they worked on the dialogue, story elements, and a new Director. It seems like the trend with Trek movies seems to be evens are good, odds ok to eh, and every fifth is a terrible one. Anyway I digress. This film did have its good spots Tom Hardy, Patrick Stewart, Brent, Jonathan's acting. The battle sequence in the Bassan Rift was perhaps probably the best part of the film.

TV Series.

TOS- The one that started it all. Of course though it had a couple bad episodes but this series was good.

TNG- For a different series this one was excellent.

DS9- Still watching this one all the way through and so far I like it. Sisko is awesome.

Voyager- I did not have a ton of gripes with this series unlike a lot of people but bad thing was the final 2 seasons lacked cohesion needed to give this show a better send off.

Enterprise- Oh boy this series was just meh and just not that good. Though it did have bright spots.

This is all my opinon though I would like to see other peoples

Movies
1. Wrath of Khan (Still the best)
2. Undiscovered Country (Almost made #1)
3. Search for Spock (Spock couldn't stay dead)
4. First Contact (The only really decent Next Gen film)
5. Voyage Home (Fun movie)
6. Nemesis (Not as bad as people say, executed poorly)
7. Insurrection (To weak of a plot for a major film)
8. Star Trek (The new one, not a fan, but more entertaining than the rest)
9. Generations (Terrible story and insulting not to let the Next Gen cast do their first movie on their own)
10. The Motionless Picture (Could of edited out 30 minutes or more of actionless space scenes)
11. Final Frontier (The worst, hands down, no doubt)

TV
1. Deep Space Nine (Great overall story, loved all the arcs, wished the final season was better)
2. Next Generation (The best cast, The series I grew up with, but to many episodes miss the mark to put it at #1)
3. Origianl Series (This started it all, allot of episodes still stand the test of time, most don't though)
4. Enterprise (Good first season and great last season, unfortunately everything in between is garbage)
5. Voyager (ZZZzzzzz, seriously every character is terriably dull and most stories were too)
6. Animated series (Only last because I haven't seen them all, all I can say is not as bad as I would have anticipated)

Okay, let's see...

TV first, personally I think Trek is better on TV.

DS9: It just had it all, drama, humour, action. Childhood well spent.

Voyager: Lots of fun in Voyager too - my earliest memory is of Species 8472 and I still find them just as awesome today.

TNG/ENT: I really can't decide which I'd put first. They both have merits.

TOS: I would ask what the hell they were on, but it was the sixties so...everything.

Films

First Contact: Really well made, great story, lot's of action.

Generations: Again, great story, well made. And as a bonus, kills Kirk twice! I take that as an apology for TOS.

Insurrection: Not too bad, bit like just a long TNG episode though.

Nemesis: Yeah stuff went wrong, but the Romulans and Remans were cool. If it were about Sela instead of some last-minute Picard clone it would have been epic.

XI: Poor story, awful script, cheap effects. But, Quinto makes an excellent Vulcan and it introduced me to Pine who's a really good actor in other things.

TVH: This film would have been dreadful if it was serious.

TUC: It's just meh to me.

TWoK: One great big yawn.

TSfS: I can't even remember what happened in this one.

TMP: Awful, just awful. But earns minor points on subtle Borg references.

TFF: Never let Shatner direct. Ever.

Films:
1.Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
2. Star Trek: First Contact
3. Star Trek 2009 (Yes, the JJ Abrams film)
4. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
5. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
6.Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Director's Cut version)
7. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
8. Star Trek: Nemesis
9. Star Trek: Insurrection
10. Star Trek: Generations
11. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier

TV Series:
1. Star Trek (1966-1969) Original Series
2. Enterprise
3. Star Trek: The Animated Series
4. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
5. Star Trek: The Next Generation
.
.
.
6. Star Trek: Voyager (Stopped watching it after The 37's)

Edited to Add:

All time favorite episode: TOS (Season 1): The Corbomite Manuever - which was the first regular series episode filmed after the two pilots but ninth episode aired due to all the post production worked needed for the VFX in 1966. for me, this episode really encapsulates what Star Trek was about. You had a ship exploring into uncharted space, with a crew of compotent (but not perfect) people - who encounter something they have never seen before - which leads to a first contact situation - which as a result puts the crew under great duress, eand we even see tempers flare, etc; BUT, in the end, they all work together to work through the situation, and the final 'solution' is arrived at due to a heated arguement. <--- This is why I've always prefered TOS over the TNG era - TOS Humans are more evolved in a lot of ways, but at their core they're still people I can relate to. TNG humans came across as politically correect beyond belief - and are ultimately not as relatable (IMO).

Least Favorite Episode: TOS (Season 3): And the Children Shall Lead - my comment "Hail, hail fire and snow this episode has got to GO!"

I won't list the movies, because it has been years since i have seen some of them, and my opinions would be very different if i saw them today.

So... TV shows.

1. TNG: Hands down the best, great characters, good chemistry, learned from its mistakes in the 1st and 2nd seasons and gave us episodes like "Inner Light" and "All Good Things".

2. TOS: The one that started it all, and a fantastic series if you can forgive the aged special effects. Had great moments (Trouble with Tribbles, Doomsday Machine) and some lousy ones (Spocks Brain).

3. VOY: Defiantly a roller-coaster of quality. Some of the best Star Trek moments (Doctor!) followed by some of the unquestionably worst. (Time Travel Police, WTF) But some of my fonder childhood memories.

4. ENT: THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SO AWESOME BUT NOOOOOOOooooooo...... That's pretty much it really. So much could have been done, but no, and canceled after three seasons.

N/A DS9& TAS: I've seen like three episodes between the two, that's not enough to judge. They don't look as terrible as people say they are though.

No1 says DS9 is terrible... what you on about? It's the best series by far (coming from a long time TNG fan... until I saw DS9 that is )

My reviews are biased since I tend to like watching things with resemble RL places, people and environments. I have watched all the movies but have only watched VOY completely and DS9 about halfway through Season 4.

That said:

Movies -

1) Nemesis

I like Nemesis because everyone hated it... as a Star Trek movie, it isn't very good at all. But to a non-Trek audience it was awesome. It proved to my local peers in south-east Asia that Star Trek can be modern and action-packed.

Nemesis was the first Star Trek movie I ever watched and brought me to the Starfleet Command games, Bridge Commander and on to rest of my Trek addiction.

2) Star Trek 2009 (JJ Abrams)

While I do dislike the number of plot holes in it (as I can present harshly in other threads) I like it because of similar reasons in 1) above. It's a step forward to bringing today's younger generation into Star Trek not just because Mom and Dad are Trekkies, but because they enjoyed the characters and the action.

1) and 2) are 'gateways' to the nirvana of TOS and TNG.

3) Wrath of Khan
As aptly stated in other posts - and I will add that the submarine style starship combat was awesome.

They didn't have today's fancy CGI to do JJ Abrams style pitched battles in deep space, so they made an excuse to get up close and personal. It's not just entertainment, its well thought out engineering both fictional and in scene setup.

I also have a personal attraction to the Khan character. He looks like he became transgendered a bit after losing his wife or some other emotional trauma. He has a lady's hairstyle, which I find cute

4) First Contact

I enjoy Battle of Sector 001 very much because many years before I ever got access to my own TV shows and movies I watched in elementary school a "Making Of" of either that film or a TNG episode. It involved using starship models for filming and a Borg cube, so whatever the "Making Of" was, it reminded me of First Contact.

My first taste of PUG STFs was also as a cruiser pilot and guess what I did - rescue stationary escorts with Extend Shields and blocking fire physically with a giant star cruiser. We all know how a lot of escort pilots in PUGs have a high mortality rate, thus protective and healing strategies can be crucial to offset their lack of experience.

TV series

1. VOY

Lady captain making controversial decisions and rewriting the rules in a remote quadrant? Cute. Also, the first ST series I watched. Got enough good case studies out of it that I still do use them for corporate management discussions. Especially the part about controversial decisions.

2. DS9

The awesomeness speaks for itself. No detailed review here as I'm catching up nightly on the later episodes.

3. TOS

I liked the acting and the scripts. There's a lot more personal flair and suspense over the stories written in "the modern age" which tend to be too fast paced for my liking. Again no review yet as I watch it in the twice daily hour-long subway rides.

Voyage home has always been my favorite Trek movie since I was a kid.
Undiscovered Country is a close second, and features my second favorite Trek Captain.

I'm not going to list the rest, although I will say I've never been fond of Wrath.

As for the series, TNG was my favorite followed by DS9

Movies

First Contact - easily the best in my view.
Generations -plot holes and problems aside i just love the film.
XI - again plot holes but very enjoyable film.
Undiscovered country - great plot and some superb dialogue.
Wrath of khan - solid film, although i dont think its as quite as good as many claim it to be.
The Journey home - enjoyable feel good film.
Insurrection - better than it gets credit for.
Nemesis - A mixed bag but the last hour is solid.
Search for Spock - Ok film, nothing special.
Final frontier - again passable film.
The motion picture - only seen it once to be fair but I found it boring as hell.

TV

DS9 - the best star trek for me and possibly one of the best shows of all time. had the lot and got seriously epic towards the end.
TNG - Put star trek back on the map. Iffy eps early on but some true classics in the middle. runs ds9 very close.
Voy - good solid entertainment. very enjoyable for the most part.
Enterprise - good and bad. picked up towards the end and deserved more seasons.
TOS - not a fan, was before my time as a child and now just looks cheesy and overblown acting.
