Hello there,

(This might be posted before, yet I couldn’t find it)

My question follows: Would it be worth it for me to purchase the new carrier as a tactical.
I understand I won't have the same abilities as Engineer or Science.
Yet the reason why I'm asking is mainly because I don't feel like leveling another toon to Vice Admiral but still like to enjoy the glory of such a massive ship with little shuttles.

Your suggestions are more than welcome.
Thank you,

Also I'll mainly go elite stf's and some pvp.

What do you fly now? The Carrier is a huge slow ship with fewer weapon mounts. Your going to hate it if you want an Escort.

How are your skill points invested?

See the word Enjoy is the important part, if your built to use a big slow science ship than yeah you'll enjoy it, not so much if your built for a normal agile Science Vessel. If your built for an Escort or a Fast Cruiser your going to hate it.

I'm currently flying the Dreadnaught x , but I don't mind the turn rate of a planet it adds some dramatic feel to it.

At the moment I’m using The Dragon Dreadnought build from Ragnorok21 http://www.stoacademy.com/tools/skil...build=Dragon_0

I also asked a player in game about the situation he said he was also flying the carrier as an tactical
and was doing just fine. So my conclusion would be “To purchase the new carrier, and give it a spin”

Thank you!

as most of the skills are forward facing i might suggest using turrets in the back. Your gravity well and tickins rift require forward. Just learn to toggle reverse to turn so you can turn faster into firing range....flying full speed forward doesnt turn too fast. Also use the omega shield for the turn rate proc.

Depends too on what type of loadout you are going for, and what you want it to do.

The 3/3 weapon slot with 2 hanger bays. I would only recommend BA and turrets for this slow moving monster. I own one and while it is indeed a great ship, many pilots do not know how to run a carrier properly.

Many rush in and expect it to be the "I Win" button and to take "X" damage and be able to dish out "X" damage and rule all. If that is what you want, stick to a 4/4 cruiser. Myself and others a while back did some serious testing the results (minus all the math) is a ranking system we found.

Superior Firepower
  1. Excelsior
  2. Galaxy (R)
  3. Sovereign/Galaxy (X)
  4. Star Cruiser

Superior Survivability
  1. Star Cruiser
  2. Galaxy (R)
  3. Sovereign/Galaxy (X)
  4. Excelsior

Now, when the Galaxy (X) gets saucer separation it will be comparable to the Galaxy (R) in most cases. Still remember the Atrox is a major capital ship, but its a Carrier, standing off and keeping your distance IS any carrier advantage. Pumping out fighters, with others in teamwork fashion, and using beams and your science skills to support/debuff? would show this ships true potential.

Remember to look at it like this. As a "Cruiser/Dreadnought" are made to get up close and personal and survive, as a battle ship should. The Carrier is capable of doing this, BUT is more effective as a standoff platform or as what I term as a "drive by support" that skirts the main furball and drives by damaging/debuff/heal.

Depend son your setups and what you want it to do specifically if its worth the time and money. Just remember its $25USD equivalent. That is a lot of money for a pixel item.

That’s quit an amazing post , always good to hear opinions from people that tested it to the max. I understand quite well that this won't function as an hit and run vessel. I'll try different set-ups. And see how it turns out.

Thank you for your great input!

Good to know another Tactical using the Atrox . I'm not really a fan of the odyssey , It's to common and i got it for free. I rather buy or earn it:p (To give the somehow special feel to it)
