Hi I play tactical and i love the tactical escort refit i bought from C store but i chose the Soverign class instead of Prometheus and i think i made a mistake? Any advice for tactical players as to which ship is preferred? The galaxy dreadnought odyssey tactical? or something else?

I've run on every ship from the Fleet Escort to a Vorcha to an Intrepid and really you as a tact can run on any ship effectively. You did not make any mistake, it's all about what playstyle you're most comfortable as and factor in your skill level as a player.

Lot of great info to get you on the path, good luck.

If your question is rephrased to what is the best ship for DPS with a Tac (or any) Captain, than an Escort is always the answer.

My Escort provides far more firepower than my Tac in a Cruiser, but sometimes I enjoy the Cruiser so much more.

Agreed.

I have the same, 1 Tac in an Escort (well, 2 if you count my KDF Tac in Guramba) and 1 Tac in a Cruiser (separate characters).

The Escort is easily the top for straight DPS, but the Cruiser performs exceptionally well and is a very different playstyle - but very fun.

At the OP:

You're fine in a Cruiser if that's what you want to play, but one thing to keep in mind is even as a Tac in Cruiser your primary role on a team is Tanking/Support.

You can do solid DPS, but not what an Escort brings.

So take threat control and be sure to hold aggro on things like Elite STFs, for PvP your build should be relatively unselfish with a good assortment of heals to toss out on allies.

The biggest mistake I see people make is putting a Tac in a Cruiser and thinking they are now a tough escort, they don't heal anyone and don't bother with threat control.

Flying around with full hull and shields, while their teammates die - do not do this.

Generally an escort. At the end of the day, the most important thing in PvE is DPS and as such the Escort is the best ship type for all careers at all levels.

Best:-
1 - Jem'Hadar Attack Ship - Specifically if you have fast reflexes as speed is it's main method of tanking.
2 - Tactical Escort Retrofit - Same as above. The cloak means it's great at alphas
3 - MVAM escort
4 - Advanced Escort & Fleet Escort - More generic methods of tanking.
5 - Excelsior - Both effective in PvP and PvE. Does no where near the damage of an escort, but still a better damage dealer then all the other cruisers.
6 - Galaxy-X - If you can handle it's turnrate, armed with dual heavy cannons and turrets this is probably the best cruiser for PvE. A bit rubbish for PvP though due to it's turnrate and as such will generally be a sitting duck.

Worst:-
1 - Caitian Carrier - Tactical buffs are of very little benefit to a ship where it's main focus is tanking and/or support.
2 - Starcruiser - The ship has a support focused BOff layout and a poor turnrate, so trying to go on the offensive with it is seriously trying to force it to do something it's not designed to do. In fact, most Fed cruisers aren't all that good for tacs (Excelsior and Gal-X being the exceptions).
3 - Odyssey - Especially the Engineer and Tactical focused versions.

No, The Tac Oddy in Saucer Seperation is awesome and in no way should be on a "Worst" list.
I both like and dont like it. I love cruisers, yet once seperated it feels like something in-Between a cruiser and Escort. lol

No doubt DPS is king in PVE and Escorts shine. But its all about what you prefer to play.

rethink your worst list, plz

one without the galaxy R is just not the worst list for dps. And caitan carrier and oddy shouldn't be even close to that list. well the caitan maybe, since your argument does make sense.

it's more like 1 - galaxy R, 2 - starcruiser, 3 - most sci vessels (i don't have nothing against this ship in general, appart from the starcruiser, that is just fugly, but for tactical captains they are the poorest choice)
