It's the same layout since they introduced crafting for the first time, and it seems mostly unused. The layout and multiple research rooms made sense when crafting was split into different fields and each lab was for a specific field, but now everyone just uses the central area and the other rooms are mostly empty.

I realize it's a low priority thing, but I feel it's something that could be looked at.

I think they should re-do the artwork to reflect those side rooms being full of dilithium crystals, since they have to store them all somewhere when they're done fleecing you to craft high-mark items.

As it is, they need to redo crafting along with Mem Alpha. Since we don't have a real crafting system, but a preset menu that uses piles of particle traces as currency.
