Ok I have a multitude of different ships most of them are science. I have no idea how my Boffs should be speced with abilities. Also should I keep changing the Boff's abilities or have multiple Boff's for different types? What abilities go well with escoarts, sci and cruisers?

In my case I've collected and trained multiple BOFFs with different abilities. I rarely retrain a specific BOFF. You'll have to buy more BOFF slots to use this approach though. Your next question is harder to answer and largely a matter of what you want to be able to do with a specific ship/character class and what you are using it for (PVE, PVP, STFs, etc.). There are a number of guides and build suggestions throughout the forums you can look at.

yeah I have been having a hard time translating guides. I may have owned the game since launch but im a bit of a noob when it comes to the terms of abilities etc. I have such a vast array of ships I would just like to know how my Boffs would be optimised to crew them. I also want to re-spec my points but thats for a different thred.

Here's a checklist of things that might help us (and you)...

1. When you're flying different ships, do you have "favorite" powers you seem to always want? If so, it's "safe" to put them on one BOff and recycle that BOff from ship-to-ship (for example, I love BFaW II and Torp Spread I. One of my Tac BOffs (Tac BOff 1) is trained in those two skills, and finds her way onto the bridge staff of every ship my Sci officer flies (except an escort, where I might use Tac BOff 2 and Tac BOff 3 which has BFaW and TS II/III, with Tac teams and stuff like that in the lower slots, due to lack of attack pattern skill...)

2. As I alluded to in my above post, are there any skills (and therefore powers) that your character's build won't be able to support?

3. Do you plan on having multiple skillsets for multiple jobs in the same ship? Again, with my Sci as an example, I have two "secondary" Sci BOffs, one kitted with Sci Team I - Tractor II - TSS III, the other slotted with Tractor I - TSS II - GW I, and I'll swap them out for different jobs, the first is my "tanking" build, the second is my "I must hold the line at all costs" build for STFs (specifically probe duty).

4. Are you using pre-made builds out of the forums here, or are you planning on inventing your own?

5. How many/what kind of BOffs do you have, and how many slots do you have? I have 12 BOffs, 4 Tac, 4 Sci, 4 Eng (10 from having been gold when he hit VA, 2 from extra slot investment). This helps out, as I can have Tac BOff 1 be my "non-escort favorite powers" BOff, Tac BOff 2 be my "other favorite ensign power and CMDR in an Escort", Tac BOff 3 as my escort's LtCmdr, and Tac BOff 4 as my ground specialist/oddball power. This way I could assign Tac BOffs 1 and 2 in my RSV, Tac BOffs 2 and 3 in a MVAE, and 2-3-1 in an 3-tac beam-boat Defiant-R, 2-4-3 in cannon-build Defiant-R...

well im looking for a help for a build in general. I got 13 officers 6 are tac, 4 Science, and 3 Engineering. I dont really have a fave ability except Tachyon's rift and the Virus.
