On the other hand, the ships that will be available via the Starbase system should give the KDF a few new toys, too.

It's not that the KDF is a no-go area. It's the fact that by statistics there aren't enough KDF players to justify further development (Even though IMO they should do it anyway. It could very well bring more people over to KDF ). So their intent is to keep the KDF a PVP heavy faction.

Perpetual back in the day estimated 22% of the STO player base would be KDF. When a sensuous was done on the player base of the game. there was only 18% of the people playing as KDF. So even though they could do more to the KDF. They just don't see the justification in it. I wish they would do more. Like they did when they added Alpha to the story arc. that was a fun mission even though it was a touch on the short side.

Again, it seems a self-fulfilling prophecy for a faction to be low population when you require people to level up a member of the other faction halfway FIRST and don't release the faction with much content.

I mean, imagine what would have happened with, say, WoW if they had done that. 'Get an Alliance character up to level 30 and you can create a Horde character. Oh, by the way, you only have three characters total.'

Add in the purchased items limited to one faction, and you get even more siloing -- if you've spent $60 on Fed ships and costumes and such, how thrilled will you be to spend one of your three (or two, now) character slots on a captain that can't access any of it?

its not going to get more popular unless they bother themselves to spend more time developing the faction.

i.e. not going to happen

This went from being a game to a retail outlet and they are only going to sell what they know will sell well. They arent going to sell a klingon ship to a faction when most of kdf players have fed toons and would just rather sell one product fed side and hit 90 percent of the player population that roll both KDF and FED. Its suck to think that way but its just buisness. Youll see what I mean when KDF players disappear for a short time to play with their new fed escort. It is my hope that the KDF side will get more attention as it will benefit the Fed side to have a decent antagonist faction to keep them buying the latest cheese just to keep up with an already outstanding lineup of KDF ships and the awesome players that pilot em

This...
KDF is low population because of the way Cryptic has handled them...the population will never improve as long as Cryptic continues to treat them like a sub par faction and forces them to sit in the backseat and eat cheerios instead of giving them the same attention the Horde got in Wow.
Which could explain why WoW is the long lasting mega money making machine it is and Cryptic is supposedly unable to afford to make any further investments into KDF content because they can't afford the Dev time.
If you make it...they will come...

I mean, what gets me is that they say 'well, people come to STO to play the good guys, so KDF isn't going to be as populated.'

But you could make similar arguments for all two-faction games, yet PLENTY of people enjoy playing big evil dudes.

(City of Villains might be a counter-example, but there are some other factors involved there, and I'm not sure it's even true any more)

Could we all agree how boring it would be without the KDF?

Ugh.. an all Starfleet universe.. I would have never signed up!

Neither would a lot of us.

I came here to play Klingon. I play Fed now simply because the game is designed that way. If I had my way, I'd be all-KDF, all the time, but it's just not feasible.

... actually, I lied. If I REALLY had my way, I'd be playing Dominion, along with Dominion fleetmates and other Founder enthusiasts, and the rest of you would be playing either Federation, Klingon, Romulan, or Cardassian. But in STO, I signed up to play Klingon.

I love My BOP & My Kar'Fi, but I'd love to see a "heavy" BOP with out all the sacrifices. Lower hull, lower shield, with 1 less weapon and boff... it's a bit much for a broken battle cloak & boff flexibility, sure it has some charm... but I'd still rather a copy of the Fleet Escort or Advanced Escort. Stock cloak is just as good for alpha.

Sure we have the raptor... but they need more skins at T5, and even then I still love BOP's more. Lets face it the BOP is iconic Klingon... and dam do they look good in the KHG set Or give me a Kar'Fi esk Cruiser but with LT Com Eng over Science & Lt Sci and they can have their toys... Mmm refit Vor'Cha with those boffs slots...Hehehehehe. If only it would actually happen.
