# 1 Cross tier modular components?

Is it possible in the game engine for the modular components of ships to be used on any type?
Say, Constitution nacelles on an Intrepid, or Luna science pod on a Galaxy?
The models exist...there are attachment points, I'm guessing, defined for each ship. What's preventing the ultimate mix and match starship creations?
Guess I'm tired of the same looking Oddys flying around.
I can understand a restriction for scaling purposes...imagine Defiant nacelles on a Sov...but if the relative sizes are in the same ballpark, why can't I pop Excelsior nacelles on a Sov? Or quad engines onto a Luna?
Just a curious real life kitbasher who'd like to do the same in game...

It's been brought up before and I think the devs said no to the idea. I personally don't want to see a frankenstein fleet where ships end up looking too kitbashed with different parts from different ship classes mixed up. The current modular options at least allow ships to have some variety in appearance while maintaining some kind of synergy within each ship type.

I remember Developers talking about pivot points and things on ships, essentially a Connie may look a bit like the Galaxy but the parts just wouldn't line up unless they made the Connie parts for the Galaxy. Considering the amount of work that would involve, I don't see it happening.
