I play star trek online because I enjoy the STAR TREK universe. I am disappointed with this latest Akira class starship. Until some one can prove to me via a episode or movie, that carriers are a part of the Major factions in the Star Trek universe, I feel they have no place hear in this game. Its bad enough you go into a pvp area and see nothing but spammed pets from carriers, its worse the things are dang near unkillable in pvp, but its an abomination that they continue to be supported by cryptic in a star trek universe. Yes I am aware they thought about putting the Akira on screen as a carrier, but ultimately THEY DID NOT. I said this before and ill say this again if Gene Roddenberry wanted carriers to be a main aspect in the Star Trek Universe he would have put them in, during his lifetime.
If cryptic wants to do this, that is of course there choice, but my primary concern is that Star Trek online is becoming Carrier Trek Online. Until these ships are balanced with the rest of the tier 5 ships, and I stop seeing more carriers added to the game, I will continue to loose interest in star trek online.
You can troll me all you want but this carrier business is out of hand.
Yeah the Star Trek Universe that I remember had been a but butchered and stretched. But untill there is another STO MMO (insert laugh here) I am happy to play this and just ignore some parts of it (stick fingers in ears .. Lalalaalalallaal)

To be honest, I'm indifferent. Suspension of disbelief - I chose to think of STO as occurring in a branched timeline of what we saw in the series, since Starfleet's attitudes/principles and ship purposes are so far removed from what we saw on screen.
Technology and political situation (war against eveyone) has changed since the days of voyager, and perhaps carriers are simply the federation finally getting something they need. It might be a natural progression.
I'm kind of against carriers in principle because by nature it makes it less about the captains and more about the ships themselves, and what carriers do as ships is not a whole lot other than sit there (and pop EM if things get hairy). Unfortunately enough people spent twenty-five real US dollars to fly a furry carrier so it looks like if anything we'll see more to come.
The Klingons never had carriers before STO either. While I think the Armitage is overpowered and I don't like the fact that it overshadows many other Fed ships now, it's asinine to call for a "PROTEST" over it.
