Hey guys, we've got another IRC Dev chat tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. PDT. The topic for this chat will be Ship Tiers. Please ask your questions in this thread so that we can make sure to get some questions pre-answered and have more information available tomorrow.
I thought this chat was about player progression? Will there be talk for both?
I'll make it more general: "Which of the new ship classes is an update of a 'classic' ship's class, a la the Excalibur being an update of the Constitution?"
And, to go back to one of my own questions from Player Progression, since it fits both topics, "when we unlock a 'new' ship's tier by achieving the next rank, can we select any ship in the tier for our 'free' one, or do we get assigned a specific one (for example, do we get to choose an Excalibur at Lt. Commander, or are we automatically assigned a Constitution and have to use Merit to get an Excalibur?)"
would it be possible to make a mock Klingon ship tier list with the ranks and classes of each tier if you haven't created enough Klingon ships to fill the list yet? Put the ones you have announced in their proper place and leave blanks to be updated later.
How big is the performance gap between lower tiered ships and tier 4 ships? Will a tier 2 ship be useful in tier 4 content without having to be overly dependent on other tier 4 ships? This is not to ask if a tier 2 ship can solo tier 4 content, but is it even useful or would we be better off in a tier 4 ship?
How much customization in the build (not graphics) can we do. Can we make an Escort that is leaning towards a Science ship? Can we load out a KDF Raptor, to be more like a Fed Discovery (loading it with science seats, and stuff), bending it away from just being a 'DPSer', towards a more 'Utility' ship?
How much affect with our Captain Abilities/skills affect the power of a ship. And, will that be limited to the Ship's Tier (ie Can an Admiral with all his skills, make a T2 ship fight alot better than the Commander in the same exact ship)?
Which of the new ship classes is an update of a 'classic' ship's class, a la the Excalibur being an update of the Constitution?
And, as an addition to the one directly above;
If I wanted to make, say, an Excelsior class out of what I assume would be the Tier 1 Cruisers, would I be able to call it an "Excelsior" or would it be stuck being called a "Constitution/Excallibur/Vesper". Of course, this is assuming the actual Excelsior class won't be in the game, but it equally applies to any "custom jobs".
