I don't understand people in this game.

I wanted BoP, universal consoles, battle cloaks, and (to a much lesser extent) carriers. So I started up a KDF character.

Want it? Play the faction that has it or sit down and stfu.

Even as a devout Fed I don't want this to happen. We already have 2 Fed ships with cloaking, and that's all we need. I hope this rumor stays that way. You want the element of surprise? Get a Galaxy-X or the T5 Defiant. No need to turn PvP into a hide n' Seek game.

This Fed says no to battle cloaks. We'll get our sneaky, underhanded tactics in original ways.

So inhumane superweapons, mass murder, and canon nonsense is okay, but speedos are too much for some people.

Well you know what they say about rumors....
Yes. That they tend to be right more often than not

It would also be rather ironic considering that there is a datachip that gives info about how there is a presidential executive order banning federation research into cloaking technology

There is support for a FED cloak in the IP. Remember the U.S.S. Pegasus
Which was developed in secret and illegally. That doesn't count.

[quote]However, people have to pretty much accept the fact that the KDF will never be a full blown faction, this has pretty much been stated since launch[/quoet]

No it hasn't. The exact opposite was stated since launch, and as recently as less than 6 months ago. Only to have them do a complete 180 and do the exact opposite.

Given that the Romulans will come out in the next year or so
Romulans aren't coming. If they don't have the time or the resources to finish what they started with the KDF then they don't have the resources to develop a third faction either

Not trying to start a flame war and I play both KDF and Fed but I almost wish they would roll the KDF into the Fed. Not because I really want to see a demise in the KDF but maybe it would stop this "No the Fed's can't X have cause we won't be unique anymore" BS.
Thats not a reason

Does it really matter if the Fed gets a battlecloak
Yes it does. Its called balance

Does not not bode well that this "rumor" was almost immediately pulled off of Gen. Discussion... and look where it was put.

Yeah, that's right.

The funny thing is, even if we go by the premise that there is a war between the Klingons and the Feds typically in war both sides start to develop similar technology or steal it from each other.
In a real world setting, sure. You do what has to be done to survive your agressors without selling one's soul in th process.

In ST , the feds did this by learning to defend themselves without crossing back into the all out warlike nature that almost killed the human race before the federation was created from the ashes of thier new extinction.
Its one of the tenants of the them being the hero in the IP, they stand above and attempt to live by the higher ideals of human achievement. Not sit around and steal every advantage they can get or purchase them just becuase they can or from a sense of entitlement.

By the very reasoning that it doesn't matter, it should be feasible for the KDF to get MVAM, Ablative armor consoles and all manner of fed tech that we otherwise would not have. How mnay will ***** when the Ablative armor B'rel flies around in PvP, stating its fedtech invented by janeway and the KDf does not need it?

The IP went down the crapper when PWE took over. Lock boxes for everyone

I don't think a Battle Cloak is appropriate for Fed's either...

But some kind of Phased Cloak with a 25% to 30% Failure rate at any time, would be cool.

Can't fire while using it, but could be useful for getting out of tight spots while in battle...

...kind of an emergency escape button from a losing-battle...
(not sure how it would balance out in PvP, but with a long CD it might not be too bad.)

No warp while it's on...

Be neat to make it so one could travel through asteroids and planets while using it.
(though with a 25-30% fail-rate, one wouldn't want to stay there long.)

Turn rate could be limited like with the Slipstream Drive (though not as limited)...

Would give the opposing forces a chance to perhaps try to fire along the last known trajectory of the ship using it... maybe get a lucky shot in and disrupt the thing.

(I'm just low-balling it at this point)

I can KIND OF understand Starfleet seeing the need for a Battle Cloak since they're basically at war with everyone and their brother right now, but an honest-to-God RAIDER? That's a bit much. I mean, "RAIDER?" The name alone says it all.

If they really really really really really need a Battle Cloak THAT bad, just make one of the ships that ALREADY has a standard cloak have it (and this is just me playing devil's advocate here; really I just prefer BC's stay with the Klinks, and I have toons on BOTH sides I play with, so I'm not biased either way). Don't invent for them a paper-hulled gun-laden deathtrap that doesn't fit with the Fed policy of "everybody makes it home" in the first place.
