We've just posted some new information on ships. If you've already checked out our Ships Overview section, check out a rundown on crew and how Bridge Officers affect your space-specific gameplay.

I don't mean to sound ungrateful because I'm not.. I'm loving that you guys are finally starting to reveal information... but what positions / seats do the Bridge Officers take up?

Is it like First Officer, Flight Control Officer, Bridge Officer, etc. etc.

Or

Is it like Engineering 1, Engineering 2, Science 1, Science 2, etc.

Ok i like what i heard but i am a little confused now, i thought they wernt going to add interiors to the ships at launch, and that all combat or action with your starship would take place outside the ship. It wouldnt be from a bridge view giving commands. Yet that article was talking about how we would beable to place our officiers on the bridge. Probaly just missing something or misunderstood something.

The station "rank" suggests that they'll be keyed to the level of ship we fly: the stations of a Captain-level ship would probably be Commander-rank stations, and so on.

The primary impact of this I see is to push players to accept promotion to the next rank in order to get a ship with higher-rank stations. Because players will want to promote their bridge officers as quickly as possible, they won't want to "waste" a higher-ranked bridge officer on a station that can't use all of that officer's magic powers... er, skills, that is.

Something to consider.

So we have the ol' classic trio of group roles here.

Tank, Healer, DPS.

The cruiser group is going to be your tank, with lots of weapons to hold aggro, but no "cannon" type weapons. Lots of power and large crew to keep shield strength up, do repairs, and keep the crew healthy. In other words a warrior/fighter/guardian class in MMOs.

The science group is an everything support class, from "healing" (I assume transferring power and doing hull repair) to buffs and de-buffs. They can also detect cloaked ships and probably have some sort of ECM to lock down other ships (ie: cc). So a cross between a cleric/healer/minstrel and wizard/mage/whatever class in MMOs.

The escort class is all about firepower and the maneuverability to to deliver damage where needed, while positioning itself to distribute damage taken a little more evenly. It can slot "cannon" type weapons (I assume they do more damage). Not quite a glass cannon, but close. Much like a ranger/hunter class in MMOs.

I assume that's where we're at so far? It looks good from an MMO perspective, though I wonder if the hardcore ST fans will complain about the "cannon" type weapons? Either way, I'm pretty happy so far.

I assume we'll get a broader range of ships in future expansions since most MMOs offer new classes in expansions?

Thanks for writing this up so far.
