The increased safety of the WASP class was clearly demonstrated when the USS CUMBERLAND (NCC-229) suffered a catastrophic warp core containment breach in 2177 while on a survey mission in sector 539. The small engineering staff was quickly evacuated from the dilithium chamber control room, after which the primary hull was successfully detached and maneuvered to a distance of 8000 km by the time the warp core exploded. No casualties were sustained during evacuation and separation. Under impulse power, the command hull of CUMBERLAND (which had been christened "The Deathstar" by the crew) entered orbit around Theta Draconis VII (now known as the Shin-Gamera colony) 5 months later. There, she waited an additional 3 months for the arrival of USS MERCATOR (NCC-266, a HUXLEY-class surveyor), which, equipped with a special tractor beam rig, towed her at low warp speed to Starbase 15. In spacedock, a new engineering hull was attached, and CUMBERLAND was relaunched 14 months after the accident.

Who do you command on your ship? Which one of them carries out the command for a new course heading or tactical maneuver?

If you've found a way to do that without having to pilot the ship yourself, I'd love to hear how you got that function to work.
To point one I say have a friend sit at your key bord. Then, sit behind them in a big char, at that point you may now captain your vessel by telling your friend what to do. :-p

The conn of a ship I believe refers to the bridge, as in controll. as in you have controll of the ship.

also hakashin arent you the one who posted the specs for the awesome dread layout? Cant seem to find it anywhere, also im lazy.

That is true. Hence my mentioning of a "tactical bigship" that is big ans slow, but has a boff layout like an escort, and broadside weaponry to make up for the slower speed and maneuverability.

yes, you do pilot a ship.
Someone does. But not you, the captain.

And until Cryptic gives me a real Helm officer to dictate maneuver commands to and HE carries out instead of me having to do it myself, I am piloting the ship.
Actually, voice recognition technology is already there to do that. It's just that STO space combat is too fast for it to be usable.

Lol okay... I meant "usable" means. But fair enough.

Have to remember that every comment I make is coming from a PvP standpoint as well.

@disposeableh3r0: Yes sir, I am. I actually still have my tutorials and videos, and they're available upon request.

Thinking about it, I believe a battleship (a big, slow-turning ship with an escort boff layout) would be a Klingon invention, later to be copied by the Federation.
