With the 20% of sale currently in effect I decided it would be a good time to buy my kdf toons a nice new c-store (zen store?) ship, but I can't decide between the kar'fi or the marauder. I'm currently leaning thinking the kar'fi would be a better fit on my main kdf a tac, but I'd appreciate any advice ether way including a good hanger and weapons loudout. thanks.
If you're a Tac and you absolutely want to pick one of those two ships, I'd say go with Kar'fi. Marauder is an awesome (really fun) ship, but I believe it's best suited for an engineer. I personally am currently using Kar'Fi on my Sci and really enjoy it (although I really hate the design...).
Thanks, I think if I do get a new ship it will be kar'fi I really can't stand the design of the marauder and the kar'fi will be awesome when I role a farsen sci (gorn engi is going to half to lump it with a neg). One more question. what hanger / weps would be good to use and does it handle like a d'kora?
Kar'fi is just a hair slower at turning than a D'Kora without battle mode on (7 degrees for the Kar'fi, 8 for D'Kora). Good enough to mount Dual Heavy Cannons for STFs against the nice predictable Borg.
As far as hangars, grab 2x of everything green (~3K EC each at the shipyard) to play around with and see what you like before plunking down the Dil for Blues. Definitely keep 2x Power Siphon Drones (green) in your inventory for handling large things like Donatra and Tac Cubes. Advanced Slavers give nice loot (it is random on when you get anything),have interesting abilities like stealing away crew and giving them to you, a decent disrupter proc, and mines can rip apart things that run into them(though be wary of using them in Elite Infected and KA, as they can accidentally blow up nodes you don't want too). I never really found a good use for the shield rep. drones. To'Duj and S'Kul are both pretty good, play around to see which you like more. I need to use the Adv. S'Kul more to see my opinion, as they just had their Ramming Speed proc fixed recently (was just doing Warp Core Breach damage before). Adv. To'Duj are pretty nice, straight forward disrupter cannons and micro-quantum torps.
Sets wise, going at least two piece KHG for the nice carrier-helpful bonuses it gives would probably be best.
I keep forgetting about the Frigates, as when I first started playing a Carrier, anything bigger than fighters just sat around twitching most of the time. I need to pick up some advanced frigates and try them out, once I earn up another 30K Dil anyways.
I am liking the Advanced S'Kul and Advanced Slavers combo so far. Keeping track of how many fighters are out becomes a lot easier when one set are suicide fighters. With To'Duj I had to keep an eye on things to make sure some weren't on the other side of the map, with S'Kul they'll find a target to fly themselves into pretty quickly.
The Marauder is quite a good ship if you're an engineer. Tanks very nicely and the hanger bay gives you lots of options. And because it tanks so well, I can stick in 3 universal consoles from other ships and still not feel like I'm giving up much. Makes for a really fun ship.
I bought the Kar'Fi last night mainly to unlock the advanced skull fighters for my Marauder, but after a quick fly around in space, the turn rate has me intrigued (12, after skills).
On top of that the Ferji frigates on paper look real interesting too.
For a tac player I can really see the appeal of this ship, but with so few eng abilities I'll have to rework/think my typically tanking play style.
Both good ships, just depends on how you want to play.

I think I'll get the kar'fi since I prefer the tac focus and I have plenty of tanky ships on my fed's so I don't need another, not to mention the asymmetrical design of the marauder would REALLY start to bug me after a relatively short time. Last question, I'm going to have enough cp and dilithum to buy a commander level ship and I was planing on getting the vandal destroyer with the plasmonic leech since it seems really nice and I can use it on my bop to, but sovereignman recommended the dacoit instead which would be better?
