This problem with the launchable AI has existed LOOOOONG before the UFP got any carriers. For all of the launchables, there are little bugs in the AI that crop up now and again. It's been a problem that the KDF has brought up for a long time, but only recently (most likely because of the new fed carriers) has been "fixed".
Trust me, they may be acting weird now, but you should've seen them before the "fix".
Bottom line: They may act weird, but not to often and not nearly as badly as they used to.

I took my Kar'Fi for a test drive for comparison, and while I agree the function is less than perfect, I found various fighters performed much better and more consistently with the Kar'Fi.
Still I need to do just a bit more testing before I unwrap those new purple flight officers.
I will say, running (3) hanger bay DOs, one purple and three blue, provided near instant respawn of none shuttle fighters, and maybe a 10-12 sec cool down on long cool down pets. It's looking like (2) purple hanger bay DOs might be just right if you want to have pets on almost constant reload to cover battlefield attrition.
Speaking of the new DOs, I'm wondering how these buffs translate?
(3x) 30% accuracy buff on Intercept with (3) purples
(3x) 10 Damage buff on Escort with (3) purples
BTW... I'm wondering if Escort Mode can be set to yourself in addition to an ally?
So far, with the new escort carrier, probably meant to be in the battle, intercept seems like a compelling fighter mode as it will watch your back during the action.
