In the TNG era the Galaxy class ships often carried crew members families and civilians (non-Starfleet personnel). The Odyssey class has twice as many crew members as the galaxy, are these ships carrying families and all that in the current era?

With as much automation as there could be in the 2Xth century, I can't see a ship that size needing any more than 1000 crew.

So my guess is yes?

Yep I'd agree that there are still a lot of ships with families aboard I would go so far as to say that the ones on the front lines or designated warships don't

I like to think there are, in fact the back story for one of my bridge officers is that he is a Family man. It's a nice idea, until the Borg pop us, of course.

I hope not, at least on my ships.
I'm regularly fighting Borg or other hostile forces. It would be stupid to carry families into those situations (I like that this was brought up in TNG, though I forget the episode).

No, nor on the Intrepid class, it was only on the larger ships in the TNG era, and I wondered if that had had changed given the "current" climate of war (the "Long" war and the Klingon conflict).

No responsible captain would take families into such dangerous situations. Even irresponsible captains, what crewman would put their families at such a risk? Do you want to risk your kids getting spaced in a combat hull breach, or assimilated? Maybe on an always-diplomat-only ship, but in time of war not a chance.

It's your ship, if you want them on board then they are on board. My ships don't have family on board, only crew and essential civilians.
