You do realize english comes from England, right?

Got some news for you, it is. The Federation is based about 75% off of the society of the United States. Yes I know, it's a little more socialistic, but that was part of Roddenberry's dream was that with everyone having basic needs provided, what use was there for monetary gain? Since there is a galaxy to explore, who cares about money? Well I agree with this line of thought and I do think it's possible, but the ideals of freedom are very much an American ideal which is why I feel it would be appropriate for the STO community to celebrate the 4th of July. The Federation is about promoting peace and freedom throughout the galaxy. There is no slavery, there is no oppression and everyone is free to do what they want. Become an artist, a teacher, a poet, an engineer a Star Ship Captain, what ever you want to become stems from the ideals of a free society such a free society was founded on July 4th 1776. You may be thinking that the Federation isn't America in the future, but isn't it? Through America's history, we started promoting cultural diversity in ways most other countries never cared to do so. America thrives on different ethnic cultures and the exchange of ideas, principles that are key to the Federation's existence.

So all in all, I really hope that next year there is some sort of July 4th event be it a sale or a special mission or maybe even a fireworks show at Starfleet Academy. It is important to the Federation to remember history, and history says or will say that in Bozeman Montana, at a Nuclear Silo, the first warp ship is launched and that is why First Contact happens. No America, no Montana, no warp ship, no first contact, no Federation.

P.S.

It's very narrow minded of you to think that the values you describe are soley American. It's quite offensive actually There are a lot of other countries and cultures out there that are very enlightened and forward thinking.

As a Star Trek game, if would be more appropriate to celebrate Star Trek events (eg Founding of the Federation), or Seasonal celebrations (eg Winter Event).

So you want a game that's based on humanity being free from internal combat and strife to celebrate an event based on the war of independence? Sounds a bit backward to me. Why not have events in the game that celebrate non-combat independence events, such as the independence of Australia or New Zealand?

Sorry, that's not american enough for you, is it?

LoL I actually have to say, I just got back from the "Dragon Festival" over on Guild Wars which is a Korean/American MMO. They celebrate holidays and just rename them. Dragon Festival just happens to cover the Fourth of July, Winters Day just so happens to cover the Christmas and New Years. In fact, the next holiday is Winters Day in July where they have snowmen in the middle of the summer. All the holidays there have "special drops" Candy Canes give your players power ups.

None of the holidays are named after anything in particular but they last about a week and they give you the sense you are doing something to commemorate your holiday. They have other countries as well such as Chinese New Year. Mid September we have "Talk like a Pirate Day" and the foes drop grog that gets your character drunk.

Star Trek could have celebrated Founders Day, made up a Bajoran holiday, etc..

So yeah, I am surprised they don't have any holiday events since other MMO's obviously do.

Actually I also find Winter Holiday/Event a little wrong as everyone in the world don't have Winter in December, I'm in Winter now actually and feel it's a little bias or more so naive to celebrate a season at a certain time when not everyone is in it. It's okay to do that locally or nationally but not internationally like we have a international community and customers for MMO's and such.

This is actually wrong. In 1963 Gene Roddenberry had Universal Translators installed in every TV set built or sold. THAT is why it sounds like the Universe speaks English. Need proof.... Go to Japan. Capt. Picard and crew all speak Japanese...

The Federation has 2 Capitols. One in Paris, (Administrative, judiciary), and the one we are most familiar with in San Fransisco. (Legislative, military)

Fact is the winter event was created as nice compromise for those who wanted a Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa holiday and had been requesting one for 1+ year. By having it be an unspecific holiday it also allowed for the inclusion of Klingons.

It's also a fact that for most people playing the game winter does take place at the same time of the year as the winter event. Unfortunately like every aspect of any MMO not everyone gets included or represented. There are always people who get left out or are left unhappy. All they can do is try to make the majority happy, which they did.
