Fact is the winter event was created as nice compromise for those who wanted a Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa holiday and had been requesting one for 1+ year. By having it be an unspecific holiday it also allowed for the inclusion of Klingons.
It's also a fact that for most people playing the game winter does take place at the same time of the year as the winter event. Unfortunately like every aspect of any MMO not everyone gets included or represented. There are always people who get left out or are left unhappy. All they can do is try to make the majority happy, which they did.
I still think it's pretty weak, it's the same thing with the KDF, the minority don't really matter, despite being paying customers.

To be honest, it wouldn't be difficult to make some up - perhaps have the Federation celebrate the day Voyager returned home, the day that Dominion War ended, or a Wolf359 rememberance day (since there is a memorial there anyway).
The UFP is composed of MANY worlds and I doubt most of them care about an old, out of date Terran holiday.
Given that Earth in Star Trek is an united planet with a single government, it makes little sense for them to celebrate a holiday like the 4th of July.
STO also has a KDF faction so events in the game usually have to include them in SOME form.
We usually do have a sale on holidays or close to them. This year we JUST had a ship sale that ended 2 days ago.
The USA doesn't hold a patent on the ideal of freedom. Last time I checked the USA is full of social oppression and inequities.
It could EASILY be argued that the Federation is modeled after the French since the UFP capitol is in France.
Well since the events are not for the characters, but for the (rl) people pay/playing the game...your game-world tie in is irrelevant (like a lot of the retoric in your post). Events are for the player base...when was the last time your toon bought you a ship from PWE?
Personally, in game event celebrations would be better, no one can argue with those and they aren't tied to any specific nationality i/m/h/o.
