# 1 Aquarius Escort Feedback
07-07-2012, 07:09 AM
First off, I want to say that visually this ship looks great. I was really excited when I heard this was in game, another Escort with hopefully something new and different going for it.

It's a departure from typical saucer type Fed ships, while still looking like a Fed ship. Well done.

It also manages to be quite different from the Defiant in its appearance. Overall I give the visual appeal of this ship high marks.

Now to the stats...

My first question about it is, what Tier is this ship intended to compete at?

It looks like a Captain or RA rank ship, but on Tribble it says that you must be a VA.

So I'm going with it being a VA ship.

Let's look at the version available to all.

Fleet Aquarius Destroyer:

Commander - Tac
Lt Commander - Tac

Lieutenant - Eng
Lieutenant - Uni
Ensign - Uni

Engineering: 3
Tactical: 4
Science: 2

Weapons
Fore: 4
Aft: 2

Turn: 16
Hull: 24,00
Crew: 50
Device Slots: 2
Shield Mod: 0.66

This ship is woefully underpowered.

You get some minor customizability with the Uni Lt and Uni Ensign, but nothing ground breaking here.

Stats-wise it looks as if it's supposed to compete with the KDF Raider Class BoPs.

The Hegh'ta has 24K hull, the same as the Aquarius.

The Hegh'ta has a fully customizable BOFF layout but sacrifices 1 ensign power for this. The fully Uni layout, is much, much more useful and allows the ship to go in quite a lot of directions.

The Aquarius Uni layout will see you with basically the same layout as any 1 of the existing escorts, but its still going to be built like an escort. So it loses out here.

You would think that with only 24K hull it would have an amazing turn rate. No, it ends up with a base turn rate of 16, the same as the adv Escort, and MVAE - worse than the Defiant and 5 points worse than the Hegh'ta.

What does it get in return for this? As far as I can tell, nothing.

It has a lower base shield modifier than the Hegh'ta (0.66 vs. 0.8), the same 4/2 weapon loadout.

I thought, just for a second, that this low survivability would mean it would get some advantage on the level of cloaking - something at all to give this ship a reason to exist. Nope, nothing at all.

It's nice that the devs want to put this ship in the game because people have requested this ship (a lot), but if you are going to put in the game, why not design it so that it actually will have value vs. the other ships in the game?

For reference, here are the Fleet stats. Still a worse turn rate and worse shield modifier than the Hegh'ta.

Fleet Aquarius Destroyer:

Commander - Tac
Lt Commander - Tac

Lieutenant - Eng
Lieutenant - Uni
Ensign - Uni

Engineering: 4
Tactical: 4
Science: 2

Weapons
Fore: 4
Aft: 2

Turn: 16
Hull: 26400
Crew: 50
Device Slots: 2
Shield Mod: 0.72

Well, I haven't tried it. The barrier for entry is very high. So this is just me commenting on the stats.

I'm, a fanboy of the ship. I will get it and pilot it. No question on that. But I would admit to being baffled by its stats. I definitely would like to see it having something going for it.

Right now, though? There's not much. It's statistically inferior to the Escort Retrofit (Saber-class) in many ways. Looking at it, there's not much going for it in the Fed escort role aside from its universal stations... which are, I agree, underwhelming.

I'm hoping that there's something like the impulse modifier, the inertia value, and perhaps some small-size evasion features that would help it out some and that we're just not seeing it. But the tradeoffs that we see done here really don't seem to be great ones - Boff power cooldowns in all likelyhood will motivate me to slap on science Boffs in the uni slots, most likely.

In the end, what I really hope is for the Aquarius destroyer to be nice enough for me to join in PvP/STFs and not get whined at for the perception of a subpar ship choice.

With Ensign skills being what they are, a universal Ensign is pretty much a giant middle finger to anyone Fed-side who was clamouring for less rigid BOff layouts.

Would be nice if they would put some of the high tier Fleet ships in the Requisition Console so we can test them out a bit, so that we can have some details on them before Season 6 hits live.

Without actually getting them out of the shipyard and test flying them, I'd say its too soon to pass judgement on them.

It might have been nice to see it follow the same route as the Odyssey, and see the universal slots being LtC and Ens rather than Lt and Ens. It'd show consistency if nothing else, and would make the lower stats look like they'd be more worth it.

Having a 20 turn rate for this would be a reasonable improvement. Would suggest higher, but the HoH'Sus was a similar turn rate and both should be comparable.

this is retarded how is this little pipsqueak of a ship classified as a fleet destroyer it sholud fall more in the category scout ship light escort. the only reason i can see buying this ship is if it would give you extra quad cannons that you could put on a decent escort like fleet defiant or armitage imagine one of them mounting three quad cannons and a quantum topedo up front on crf 3 ts2 then unloading a mass on photons from armitage special console yummy fun time. otherwise the can keep this little ship in store unless it could be used in the vault its the right size just a large heavy duty shuttle .

The ship is a little (too much) underwhelming tbh. But even with this setup, what if the ship could equip any special console and skip the regular ship type restrictions.

Proteus, you can ask the same thing to the Jem'Hadar bugship and the B'rel Bird of Prey - both of which are Tier 5 ships; the Aquarius is actually in a similar size category to them. Pipsqueaks, you say? I call them "little dudes with attitude"!

The ship was asked for, and now it's in. Now, the point is to help make it as rewarding to use as most other player ship. Let's stick to that, m'okay?

Speaking of 'shuttles', one feature I was really hoping the Aquarius destroyer might have is the ability to be swapped to from an Odyssey bridge's transporter room like we can with the small crafts. That way, no need to return to a starbase to swap the ship back and forth. Want a DPS role in an STF? Grab your Aquarius! Your team needs some extra staying power for that freighter defense mission? Switch back to your Odyssey!

It's just utility, but it'd be awesome. It's one of the reasons I was hoping the Aquarius would become playable.

Are those of us who purchased the Oddy Bundle gonna get this ship for Free? I've been itching to try out my Aquarius first hand instead of just watching it doing it's own thing!
