Well I am mainly a KDF player and so have never really looked at setting up a half decent Federation ship. However with the Fleet System and most of my Fleet Federation focused I have been playing the Federation a bit and would like some suggestions on a Tactical Officer Defiant Retrofit build.

I am currently running 2 MK XII (Borg) antiproton weapons (1 beam bank the other is a heavy dual cannon) and the Aegis set. The rest is either MK XI antiproton beams/cannon weapons that I plan to upgrade to MK XII and some common MK XI torpedoes that I also plan to upgrade to Borg MK XII.

So does anyone wish to share the suggestions and experience?

Thanks.

Can't you adapt your Klingon ship to the tactical escort retrofit?

I favor dual heavy cannons with escorts. I also would recommend you back up your cannons with at least two turrets. If you want your cannons to be really effective you should probably have two cannons up front, two turrets in back, and be cycling cannon rapid fire of one level or another. Attack Pattern Omega will help you back this up with additional speed and damage.

I know some people favor beam-centric escorts, though I have never tried it myself.

Well my Tactical KDF is running a Galor so yeah not such a good idea considering it's mainly a beam boat.

I run Attack Pattern Omega every chance I get. I was seriously considering a turret or two at the rear as well. My current thoughts are:

Fore: Beam Bank, Dual Heavy Cannons x2, Torpedo Launcher
Rear: Turret (1 or 2), If only 1 turret have a beam array as the second weapon and a Torpedo Launcher to fill the 3rd slot.

I am still unsure which set to use, Omega, MACO, Aegis, Borg?

On my Tactical Escort Retrofit, I use all cannons.

fore: 4x Phaser DHC [CrtD]x3
aft: 3x Phaser turrets [Borg]

With [CrtD]x3, my DPS is less than my Antiproton [crtd]x2 [dmg], but the critical severity is the same. I was able to get 4 of the mk XI DHCs for 600k each.

As for the set, if you don't have any points in flow capacitors, I'd say skip the 2-piece Omega set.

I use the MACO deflector and shields and Omega engines. Some like to use the Borg engines in conjunction with the Assimilated Module for the additional 2-peice Borg set. I prefer having the faster engine.

A decent build i have has on the forward parts a Dual Heavy cannon, Dual Cannon, Quantum torp, and Dual Beam Bank, and the Aft i have 2 turrets and a transphasic torp. i mainly run the dual beam bank for my shield subsystem target and for same arc as my torps but hae cannon spread and torp spread out with tac buffs and just watch the fireworks bloom.

Same layout as a Qin Heavy Raptor if you have experience with that you could just transfer the same build over.

I'll share my Defiant build here

CMDR Tac- TT1, CSV1, APO1, CRF3

LCDR Tac- TT1, THY2, APO1,

(You can switch 1 APO for APB1 in pve but 2 are needed in FVF pvp now because of Danubes)

Ensign Tac- TS1

LT Eng- EPTS1, EPTS2

LT Sci- HE1, TSS2

Fore: 3 DHC 1 torp
Aft 3 turrets

Deflector- MACO or Borg

Engines- MACO or Borg

Shield- MACO

Eng Consoles- Neutronium, Borg console, Cloaking device (switch it out in PVE for another Neut)

Sci consoles- 2x Field generator

Tac consoles, 4x of whatever type of energy weapon you are using

Duty officers 2 projectile weapons officers and 3 cannon energy weapons officers, or 3 projectile weapons officers and 2 cannon energy weapon officers.

Not sure how useful using a DBB and torp up front is since you only get 2 DHC up front but if that works keep it and just have 1 less torp skill then my build to use for beam overload. It may give a better Alpha strike but lose a little sustained DPS I guess.

Thank you all for sharing your suggestions and experience after some play and thought I have decided to go with this layout.

Fore: 1 Beam Bank, 2 DHC and 1 Photon Torpedo Launcher
Aft: 3 Turrets

CMDR Tactical - Beam Overload 1, Tac Team 2, Tac Team 3, Attack Pattern Omega

LT CMDR Tactical - Torp Spread 1, Cannon Rapid Fire 1, Attack Pattern Delta (Considering changing this to another Cannon buff)

ENS Tactical - Torpedo High Yield 1

LT Engineering - Engineering Team 1, Emergency Power to Shield 2

LT Science - Science Team 1, Polarize Hull 2

You're wasting a lot of potential by using higher tiered versions of TT. The extra bonuses are really not worth it. You want TT1 and use the other slots for other powers. Here is my build.

Full MACO set
3 DHC/3 Turret (AP or Phaser), 1 Quantum
Tac: 4 AP or Phaser Relays
Eng: 2 Neutroniums, Cloak
Sci: 2 Field Generators

Comm. Tac.: TT1, CRF 1, APO I, CRF 3
Lt. Comm. Tac: TT1, THY 2, APB II
Ens. Tac.: THY 1
Lt. Sci: PH 1, HE 2
Lt. Eng.: EPS 1, EPS 2

Doffs: 1 Conn, 2 Shield Dist., 2 Damage Cntl. Eng.
