I am new to 50, and flying the nebula from the c store, is there a better choice of ship for me to mix the sci skills, with decent dps?

the nebula is a fantastic ship choice!

however! the recon class science ship also is good at doing dps and using science!

in order for me to help you, i need to know what kind of science you had in mind (control, mayhem, healing, power drain) and what kind of dps you wish to try (weapon, torp, science)

also! what gear do you have available? and do you play on teams or solo?

i look forward to helping you

i run a hybrid sci/heal nebula, a dps recon, and a science heavy interpid retrofit.

ive toyed around with dps nebula, and a "battlestar" build for the dssv.

Well, on the Nebula I was either 4 array and 2 torps or 5 array and 1 torp. I like using either a CPG TB build and then torps or contole like GW, etc. I prefer PvE to PvP and need to run some STF's to gear up. I am using all purple mark X right now.

Ok so then going that you prefer pve to pvp makes it much much easier. Do you to broadside and circle a target or charge head first at it? What weapon types are you currently using?

I only know of one formula for dps on science vessels, and that is to slot purple projectile weapon officers and use 2 forward torpedo launchers. Combine that with 3 turrets aft and the Omega set's tetryon glider ability to melt shields quickly and you should be able to do deal decent (not amazing) dps.

I have used this formula on a Luna as well as an Atrox, it works well on both ships while still leaving room for your boffs to do all their science tricks.

@Evil70th: "Despite starting out a little slow it picks up quite rapidly and becomes a roller coaster ride of a mission with some great twists and turns."

I currently have all Mk X phaser array (purple) and quantum. I do both, the sci ships do not turn great so its not always easy to hit head first, although in pve easier than pvp. I like to mix in my sci skills as well, like gravity well which does make a frontal assault easier.

A Caitian Carrier can hit harder then a sci ship by using pets, and has just as much Sci stations, you just have to put up with the horrible manuverabilty which can sometimes make it hard to use sci abilities that require you to face the target like Gravity well.

Another good choice to give you DPS and sci skills is the Multi-Vector Advanced Escort, it gets a Lt Cmdr sci station, does decent DPS with its CMDR, LT, and ensign tac stations. You will manuver great making it easy to face the enemy to subnuc them o use other sci skills, you just will be missing out on CMDR sci skills only.

If you like lockboxes then maybe the Tholian ships will also be a good choice.

For any ship that has a Commander Science station, you should not ignore Gravity Well II/III. It can do some heavy damage to enemies.

ok heres what ya do!

in a nebula you best offensive sci powers are- tractor beam 1, scramble sensors 1 or charged partical burst 1, and either gravity well 3 or photonic shockwave 3.

if its pve id go with ss1 and grav well 3

now! the defensive science skills- sci team 3, hazard emitter 1 and transfer shield 2.

engienering- id use (for pve) eject warp plasma 1, aux to sif 1 and emergency power to shields 1.

weapons! you can either do 5 beams 1 forward torp or 3 turrets, 1 cannon, 1 dual beam bank, and 1 torp.

if you go with the beams the tactical powers to take are-

tac team 1, fire ate will 1, with the universal being- attack pattern beta 1 and high yeild torp 1

if you go with the cannon/turrets-
tac team 1, rapid fire 1 with the universal being- high yeidl 1 and attack pattern beta 1.

pve is really easy. if you go with the recon you'll find you can dps it up and science it much better!

if youd like more details, hit me up ingame- @matteo716
id be more then glad to help ya out.
