Just wondering whether Cryptic is solidifying more defined roles for different vessels and simultaneously plugging role weaknesses, e.g. with cruiser commands (previewing with the new fed battlecruiser).

I know they previously wanted to do this for season 8 with an armour slot for cruisers and an extra deflector slot for Sci ships. Not sure if this is still planned though.

Maybe this means Sci vessels may get some new role functionality as well, possibly introduced with a new ship? We're about due a new T5 Fed sci ship.

What would happen to the Science-based Oddy cruiser if this happened, I wonder?

What are these Cruiser Commands?

I much rather they upped the levels of TargetSubX to III for Science Vessels than give them new functionality.

Tying into this would be upgrading TargetSubX itself, giving them the ability to also remove buffs attached to a certain subsystem.

You people. . .sigh.

Okay, let me explain it this way: Cruisers are getting a modification to keep them competitive against other ship classes. All well and good, right? But wait, science ship fans want an upgrade too! Cryptic being Cryptic, they conjure up something to tack onto science ships. Now the escort fans are feeling left out, and make their own 'requests'. Let's say Cryptic implements something there, shall we?

Suddenly, cruisers start being edged out again because the other two classes got buffs of their own. Cryptic, again, being Cryptic. . .these buffs would be clumsily applied and result in overall power creep along with keeping those two classes 'ahead' of cruisers. Now cruiser fans want another buff. The cycle of power creep is complete, and keeps on cycling.

See the problem with this kind of approach? The cruisers needed an update, and this kind of AoE support ability is actually pretty good and compliments what cruisers already have. The science ships DON'T need an update, and neither do escorts. They're both very good at doing what they're supposed to do. About the only other ship classes I can think of that need a real overhaul are KDF Birds of Prey and KDF Raptors. BoPs have been left behind by the advent of LoR, and Raptors were never really competitive to begin with due to Cryptic's refusal to fix the turn axis.

Don't get me wrong. I think Science Vessels are in a good place. Fix how stupid TargSubX is and they'd be perfect.

Suposedly, Sci Vessels are getting a second deflector slot. As for new mechanic, they wouldnt need it, just upgrade target subsystem cause current ones are lame at best. Although a debuffing auras wouldnt be wrong, Sci Vessels are way more underperforming than cruisers anyways.

As for Escorts, they aren't suposed to need any revamp cause they were already the kings.

You sure? Low turnate, lowest hull in the game, only 6 weapons, and lt.commander and commander sci abilities scaling lower than their ensing/leutenant pairs... Target subsystems arent even any good, best is their sensor analysis but it takes 60 seconds to fully stack... No way, Sci Vessels have been always way behind cruisers and they need more improvements than cruisers.

Like the tac buffs buffing tac use of sci and eng skills to unholy levels, way beyond what specialised sci and eng could do on their own?

Though this would clearly be easily solved, by simply nerfing those skills affected. No biggie.
