Hi, all! I recently leveled my first KDF Toon to 50, and I've been piloting cruisers the whole way. But, for some reason, a cruiser doesn't seem very Klingon to me. Sure, It's a good ship, and it's fun to play, but It's missing something...

Specifically, that something I felt the first time I saw the Search for Spock. Kruge, piloting a bird of prey, and having that feeling of inherent badassery.

So, as soon as I can, I'm going to buy (I beleive) the HEgh'ta HEavy BoP as an alt ship. What I want to know is...where do I go from here?

EveryoneI've asked in my fleet has said that BoP's aren't fun and that they are "Built out of Wet Toilet Paper", etc, and my experience with the B'Rel wasn't very impressive, I admit, but it was a Tier 1 Ship.

So, How do you loadout your BoP and play to win in any situation, be it PvE or PvP? I do not PvP, but I am very, very interested in more information and can't find anything distincitve here on the forums via searching. Any help would be appreciated.

Your fleeties are wrong about the BoP not being fun, but correct about it being very fragile if one is not experienced in keeping it alive.

Unfortunately I do not know of many Engineers that fly them and have no build advice.

They are alot of fun for a Tac toon and Science toon, but since the Engineer is more about healing and survival it tends to be less effective in a BoP, with its low hull and low shields.

I knew a Heal BoP once though that had nailed down the Engineering build and was excellent at both survival and heal support, but I did not know his build.

My Engineer flies a Heghta BOP pretty often and gives it pretty excellent survivability. You won't have quite the DPS of a Tac captain, but you also won't die anywhere near as often and that keeps you in the flight.

1. Your engineer's Miracle Worker ability is your friend, but use it only when your about to die and you absolutely cannot escape to heal yourself. Don't waste it, in other words, as the cooldown is pretty long.

2. The Bird of Prey's universal bridge officer stations allow you to give yourself plenty of heals via Eng and Sci officers. When fighting the borg, be sure to have a Tac with APO Attack Pattern Omega to help break you out of tractor beams.

Engineers make all ships, no matter how fragile, both more survivable and more interesting. Based on what you are saying, try this and watch your fleetmates envy you for making the BoP a badass.

CDR Tactical: Attack Pattern Omega III, Beam Overload III, Cannon Radid Fire/Volley I, Tactical Team I

LCDR Engineering: Emergency Power to Weapons IIII, Auxiliary to Inertial Dampeners I, Emergency Power to Shields I

Science LT: Transfer Shield Strength II, Hazard Emitters I

Tactical LT: Cannon Rapid Fire/Volley I, Tactical Team I

Run 1 Dual Beam and 3 Dual Heavy Cannons, 2 Turrets. Replace 1 Dual Heavy with Quad Connons if you have it and use disruptors.

Whether you use Rapid Fire or Scatter Volley is up to you, I prefer Scatter Volley with all the new Starbase missions.

Use 2 field generators for science consoles and Borg console

I use the Borg 3 piece set with KHG Shield.

Use 1 Neutronium Alloy, 1 RCS Accellerator, and I highly recommend the Theta Vent console from the C-store as the third, otherwise use a 2nd Neutronium.

3 weapon consoles.

Respec out of torpedos, your Beam Overload III is your kill shot.

Run 100 weapon power, the rest in engines. You want to go fast.

Constantly heal yourself with Aux2ID, even when at 99% health because it's also a buff.

Learn to fly fast, the more overall power you have from skills, the better this build will be for you. Learn to use evasive manuevers as an attack, not a defense, and learn to use HE + Aux2ID as a hull buff combination heading into battlecloak as you prepare your next attack run. Speed will help you set yourself up from a different position for a decloak alpha.

Fun build in pvp too btw, once you learn to fight at high speed.

Oh and btw, APO III + EPtW III + Cannons + BO III + Engineering skills related to power = Excellent DPS. It will never be Tactical officer quality, but you will be delivering punishment, and if you use anti-proton and you are built to crit, you'll be very nasty.

The following is a copy paste from an older post where the OP wasn't happy with where he was currently with the BOP and was asking if it would get better at end game. He's an engineer. There's a couple new links at the end. Keep in mind if it makes you happy, sure go ahead. There's some info in those links and on my channel that will help you do it. But when you can take a cruiser, make it dance, spew cannon fire and torpedoes all over the map while handling all incoming damage, I'm not sure why you would choose a BOP.

I'm all about the BOP. Really I like them they are just a blast.

None of the strengths of an engineer compliment the strengths of the BOP.

None of the strengths of the BOP compliment the strengths of an engineer.

Exactly zero. I want you to have no doubt in your mind that choosing to use a BOP as an engineer is only slightly better than choosing a shuttle.

The BOP is designed to deal a great amount of damage in a short amount of time and then to vanish. No really that is the design. There is no question there. It was not designed to do anything that an engineer is good at doing.

Engineers have abilities that allow them to maximize multiple power settings simultaneously as well as resist drains to their power, and have one huge heal. These abilities are not needed by and are not well utilized by a BOP.

And you really can't make up for missing out on the huge damage buff that is Attack Pattern Alpha.

If your taking the sort of damage in a BOP that miracle worker could help with your missing something about the BOP.

Cruisers and science ships play better with engineers. Even an escort build can be a good choice as escorts are intended to be under fire for extended periods of time, and overall high power levels, drain resists, and miracle worker can be highly valued by ALL these ships. Not so much the BOP.

In fact an engineer in any of those ships will be able to put out a consistently higher level of damage over the course of any engagement due to the enhanced power levels and survivability. But they will never have the burst damage of a Tactical.

But what about using science powers........

The yummy science powers are also buffed by APA. There's not a lot of escaping it.

You could do it, but I don't feel that you would be any happier at end game then you are now.

That is how I found Happy in a BOP.

This is an engineer being badass in a cruiser. He is happy too.

And that's me doing STF's with the Marmotz.

Thank you all for the information! It's been extremely helpful.

Thissler: I just want to say that piloting a BoP Is not something I intend to do all the time. My intent has always been that this captain mainly pilot a cruiser. Specifically, The Bortasqu' Tactical Cruiser. I just bought a BoP for a little fun on the side, as It's a very Klingon ship and I wanted to try it out. And I have. And I like it. But eh Cruiser is definitely more the order for things like STF's. However, the occasional STF will be spent in a BoP to break up the boredom. And I'm excited by it

On the Fleet Blockade event, I use my Hegh'ta to heal transports.

BUT...

Tac & Sci skills seem way better than the Eng skills. Tac Team is the biggest thing, and everything else pales in comparison. I also use TSS if the transport's overall shields are low.

The only Eng skill I use for a heal is Aux to SIF 2. I run EPtS1 as a self-heal because sometimes I also try to pull aggro if there are a lot of nasty bad guys (i.e. Vor'cha with Bio-Neurals).

MAYBE I'd run an Eng in a Hegh'ta for that, but it really isn't Eng skills keeping the transports alive.

There's not much else that can do what a Hegh'ta could do, but a Vor'cha with a couple Tac Teams & Beam FAW might keep transports alive better than I could.

That's how it starts you know. You see your friends in BOPs and they seem to like it. They're your friends right? It must be okay. So you try it too. Once. Maybe twice. And you like it so you start to do it more often. You tell yourself that you can stop at anytime, plunk your backside down in a cruiser and just walk away..... Before you know it you're waking up in the alley behind a bar on Q'uonos with a tramp stamp ........ BOP4EVAH
