Let me get this straight....you expect that a ship you unlock from your fleet (which was probably unlocked from your fleet mates spending a lot of their own resources to increase the tier) to be useable on your other characters that may or may not:
1) be in the same fleet.
2) contribute a significant amount of resources to increase the tier.

As it has been established, the Dilithium Exchange can be used to get Zen without spending money. Similarly, you can buy Dilitihium boxes in exchange for Borg salvages and parts.

As for your complaint about grinding PvE for gear to use in PvP...isn't that how a lot of games are?

# 22 Suggested Changes

I started this thread to maybe get PW to understand that some of us think these new ships are insanely overpriced.

This is how I would change it (I'm aware this might not ever happen)

1. Put in an option to upgrade your existing ships to the new Tier V versions for 1 Ship Module (500 ZEN) and 20,000 Fleet Credits, instead of having to buy a completely new ship for 2000 ZEN. I myselft save my lower tier ships when I get an upgrade (I still have my original Constitution class from when I started playing the game two years ago), purely for storage reasons. But, for those of us who have saved those ships, I think we shouldn't have to pay as much to upgrade them to the Advanced Fleet varient with the new hull material, armor/shield bonus, and console slot.

2. Take out the "Retrofit" versions of these new ships completely. All it is doing is offering the ship (whatever one you're buying) a top tier ship, but does not give you any of the bonuses that the Advanced Fleet ships do (hull material, armor/shield bonus, extra console). I see no point in offering these at all, as most people will simply buy or trade for the ZEN in order to buy the fleet versions instead of wasting 180,000 Fleet Credits on one, "nothing special" ship. And they don't even offer a discount if you already have the lower tier version of the ship. It's 200,000 Fleet Credits for a useless ship that doesn't have any bonuses, just the cosmetic value of using a lower tier ship.

3. If they can't do that, at least make ALL ships available to buy (all ship classes with all their different hulls included) so people who like a specific ship class can use it in the top-level fleet actions, events, STFs, etc. Some ships might not be included it this (Dreadnaught Cruiser, Atrox Carrier, Odyssey Cruiser varients) simply because these are already the top tier vessels. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be included, like the new Akira Carrier was. The new hull material and bonuses would make them worth it.

4. The Advanced Fleet ships should be 1 Ship Module per character, 2 at the most, plus the normal 20,000 Fleet Credits. Paying 2000 ZEN for one advanced ship on one character is just insane. But, that said, they cannot unlock the ships account-wide because not all your characters are always in the same fleet, nor have they always contributed to the Starbases advancement, so it wouldn't really be fair to the rest of your fleet. One Shipyard provision equals one ship, it's as simple as that.

Once again, I would love to get feedback on this, so have at it.

I think the easiest solution is to just lower the price of the ship modules. Drop them form 500 to 125 each. That way the fleet ships can still cost 4 modules, but at the much more reasonable price of 500 zen, and they can still do a discount for pre-purchased C-store ships.

My problem with this, is that I paid for my Tactical Escort Retrofit.

If you are going to make the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit cost the same for someone who has and doesn't have the Tactical Escort Retrofit, then I would have paid $25 for an account-wide cloak console and inferior Tier 5 ship. Since I only have 2 characters (one Federation and one Klingon), how is this fair? We are already paying $10 more than someone who is spending 2000 Zen for the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit (with no prior c-store purchase).

# 25 These prices stink.

I don't care if other games have become a grind fest, I won't do it in them and I won't do it here at STO. If it means less gaming then so be it. In my world gaming is supposed a fun activity I play at, not another job I come home from work to do ....and pay outrageous amounts of cash and or time for the privilege of. Guess I'm in the minority with that kind of thinking. These ships are wayyy over priced IMO this is garbage.

I paid a lot of money for cstore ships and don't care if it's a T1 ship or a T5 ship I paid for in game I should get a discount (sliding scale based on ship cost ) and it should be available account wide not per character and just like any cstore ship re-claimable anytime.

Oh yea and the $7.00 suits per character that you cannot reclaim - not gonna happen for me.

You do get a discount. A 75% discount, in fact, for owning the c-store variant of the fleet ship.

Also, the operative word here is: Fleet.

Why should your other characters benefit from the work of the rest of your fleet, when there's the possibility that your other characters are not in the same fleet as the ones who unlocked the ships?

It doesn't take that much work to get to 20k Fleet Credit. I made 3 or 4k Credit for doing just two very quick, and very easy, fleet missions. And they weren't that bad to play.

Well some Tier 5 non-Fleet ships are available for just Fleet Credits you just need 200,000 of the little gals not exactly fast. For meit seems an extra something if you love your Fleet and are a casual player. If you only want to have one character of each faction then why not spend the money ,just $20 US, to get that one cool ship you want for your esteemed game rank of Vice Admiral. or General.

Also if you don't want to spend anything just get 200,000 Fleet Credits and get the stock Odyssey or one of the non-Fleet Tier 5 ships. This makes the top ships available strictly f2p.

Let me get this straight... you expect me to be at a power disadvantage in PvP because:

1.) I need to give Cryptic money for power, or...

2.) I need to PvE for 8+ months to earn the dilithium needed to convert into the necessary
Zen and to build the starbase, just to stay competitive.

Instead of... you know... enriching PvP enough that we aren't required to spend the next year PvEing just to be able to be truly competitive with equal gear in PvP.

Um... no.

If I wanted to blow up the same Tac Cube for the 50,000,000,000th time in Infected over the course of the next few years, sure.

But that is not fun for me.

"If you don't like it, don't play" you say?

Sure. One month GW2 launches. I'd be happy to ablige.

I'm not usually one to complain, but I 'am' sorely disappointed that there isn't a fleet oddy version...

Guess I'll just wait on the cstore sovereign...

Fleet modules can be purchased from the exchange. You can also make a killing from selling DOFFs right now. I get free DOFFs every other day from doing such a menial task as talking to some officers for the DOFF recruitment missions. Hardly any effort at all. I spend more effort doing price comparisons trying to sell the DOFFs then getting them. For free. Use the profits from your DOFFs to buy the fleet module.

There are plenty of options to choose from. Some require a little effort.

And you're welcome to point out where in my post I said "If you don't like it, don't play." Because I didn't. However, it seems you've already decided to quit the game anyways.
