So I'm currently a tac captain in an Advanced escort with all the fun stf gear and borg stuff and all that. and I just happened to get the MU Assault cruiser yesterday.

I kind of want to use it as an off-ship if that makes sense, just for the variety really. I have enough boffs to do an exclusive team for that ship. I was wondering what would be a good layout for a tac/cruiser in that case? If it's not elite viable I'm not too worried. It's basically my screw around, maybe run some episodes ship.

Asking that question in zone chat sparked a 5 minute debate about how I should die as a person for not being in an escort so I was hoping this would be more helpful.

I have my normal Assault cruiser set up just like the Dragon Flagship build. (look it up on these forums if interested) and it is extremely viable for elite stfs. Actually, with my ability to hold agro on everything and tank it for quite some time it gives the escorts alot more freedom to do their thing. Damage stuff.

Of course, 7-8 beam broadsides at 125 power levels, with tactical damage buffs is nothing to laugh at either.

cool. I hadn't seen any threads about tac captains in cruisers. I give that a shot and see how it feels.

at the very least, it'll be a nice variety from "park in front of thing and shoot"

My Excelsior-R is similar to the Dragon and indeed, broadside with 8 beams is a good weapons platform. I moved my throttle to the mouse wheel for better control keeping all beams on target. Add BO or TS along with FAW or 2 copies of FAW and it is a very versitile ship with the right pilot for STF and Fleets... JMHO
"All I ask is a tall ship and a star... to steer her by." You... You could feel the wind at your back in those days. The sounds of the sea... beneath you, and even if you take away the wind and the water... it's still the same. The ship is yours. You can feel her. And the stars are still there, Bones. ~ James T. There's the ship I fly for E-STF and than there's the ship I take for my own amusement. If you got the AE, than your good for any team thing where you need to bring damage, so why not take a selfish ship.

That being said many people enjoy Cruisers as they are more graceful more Trek like ships.

I run a tank build, which I wouldn't recommend (I'm an Engie with threat control) so as for DPS you have quite a few options. My favourite build is not possible fed side and because they broke one of the controls.

Let's try a few concepts.

4 Cannons and 4 Turrets is a build I think you should avoid, it will be a bit too much like your escort but take it if you want.

2 Torpedoes and 6 Beams may be a better choice for you. Turn of 7 so you won't be nose/tail on target a lot of the time so you can use Tricobalts or Quantums depending on personal preferance.

TT1 > FAW2
TS1 or HY1 or FAW1
(Your call)
A single tac team is all you need for PVE. It shouldn't be too bad in Station Defense or Blockade either.
EPtW1 > EPtS2 > Aux to SIF2 > Extend Shields 3
EPtW1 > EPtS2 > DEM or RSP

Learning to always be chaining a EPtX every 15s should keep your weapons an shield power both at 125 and allowing the excess to be put to Aux or Engines.
HE1 > TBR1
HE is a good heal, you won't need shield heals with 2 EPtS and TBR means you can take this thing into a Blockade, heal the freighter and Repel the attackers.

Alternatively for more DPS

EPtS1 > RSP1 > Aux to SIF2 > Extend Shields 3
EPtS1 > DEM1 > EWP1

Set weapon power to 125, don't worry too much about the shields since it's not E STF and you more DPS (while shields are up) with DEM, you can drop evasive and Warp Plasma and tie up the crowds with the Matter/Antimatter DOFF. If you got a Theta Console run a second DEM or bump it up and run ET2 in it's place for an extra heal.

Consoles
Neutronium x 2, Borg, RCS (maybe)
Field Gen, Field Emitter
Energy Consoles to suit beams

If you have any trouble understand acronyms just say so, me or somebody will translate.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.
If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why.
When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
