I've seen some ship names that put question marks in my head. Like the many variations of the words Enteprise, Defiant, Reliant, Voyager, etc... I know must of us name our ships for some asthetic reason (like my Tac officer's ship, the U.S.S. Kusanagi which is named after one of the three regalia of Japan), but I get the feeling that some names are there in hopes of invoking some power to it.

Like the U.S.S. Chuck Norris, probably named in hopes of invoking his "invincibility" during battle...

Most of my ships have their names derived from Mobile Suits or ships of the line.

A few examples (cba to list all 40 or so ships I have):

* Escort carrier U.S.S. Argama. Named from the ship used in Zeta gundam, the Argama launches its fighters, but is far from defenceless on its own.

* Odyssey class U.S.S. Dendrobium. Named from the combination of the Stamen and Orchis, the Dendrobium evokes the irresistable force that the Gundam Dendrobium embodies.

* Atrox class Ra Cailum. Named to evoke the leadership role that the originator had in Char's Counterattack.

*Prometheus class U.S.S. Trombe (*ahem* thats Trombe!), named as an embodiment of the meme Trombe! override. Many an alpha strike have been shrugged off, ambushers killed before any serious damage done, generally a badass ship in the hands of my tac captain. She was mothballed when the Armitage launched
Ikuzo, Trombe!

USS Huntsville - Named after home town
USS Saratoga - Named after the ships of Starfleet FAIL legend
USS Blizzard - Captain is an Andorian
IKS Mogh - Obvious
IKS Kitty - My Ferasan.

So, no deep thought was applied to my names.

I tried that. But the ship would just sit around and do nothing while consuming all of my resources...

VA John Hippie, USS Woodstock NCC-91969 , named and numbered for the music festival that happened in 1969.
[Ship's Dedication -
"We are stardust, We are golden, We are billion year old carbon ..."
- Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young]

LCdr Bagheera (Caitian) , USS Kipling , for obvious reasons. The BOff crew are also named for Jungle Book characters. Mowgli, Baloo, etc.

I named all my science officer's ships after famous nurses. Currently in a MVAE The USS Walt Whitman. Her Intrepid is the USS Christine Chapel (with a creative spelling)

I went for USS Odyssey simply because it sounded cool, and stuck with it despite finding out later that there was a specific class of ships called the Odyssey Star Cruiser.

Game features I'd like to see improved / expanded: Better Ship Interiors // BOff Costume Slots
