My starting light cruiser was the USS Kagoshima, after a city in Japan I whose name like the sound of.

My cruiser was the USS John Paul Jones, after this guy who was one of America's first well-known naval captains. I also snagged the free C-store science vessel, which I named USS Makoto Kobayashi after the winner of the 2008 Nobel Prize for Physics.

I moved up to the heavy cruiser USS George Hammond, because I love Stargate SG-1. I also grabbed the freebie Yellowstone runabout, which I named USS Glyrhond-A after a river on Bajor mentioned in DS9, because Starfleet names runabouts after rivers and my captain is Bajoran. The "-A" is because I justified my acquisition of the shuttle by saying she'd requisitioned it after the ship's shuttlebay was trashed by a torpedo hit and the existing shuttles totaled.

Then to the USS Bajor, a GCS, again because my captain is Bajoran. I'm currently flying the USS Relentless, a star cruiser, and for that one I just like the word.

A point that a lot of people seem to forget. Fortunately I live in a state with a lot of rivers, so my various characters' retinue of runabouts includes the Puyallup, the Carbon, the Nisqually, and the Hoh. If I get another one, I'll probably name it the Cowlitz.

"Puyallup" sounds like a comment made by mountain climbers in my (Southern) part of the States. I'm guessing it is a Native American term though?

I like having the river theme for runabouts. My two are named for local rivers and are elsewhere in this thread. I personally like the canon use of Orinoco and Rubicon. The names have a strong, cool sound to them, unlike the small, vital river in my hometown, the Reedy. As much as I love my home, I'm not sure I could name a runabout for that.

It's a smallish local tribe. It's also a lot of fun listening to folks from out of state try to pronounce it (as can happen when someone's playing Shadowrun, whose default setting is the Seattle arcology).

(BTW, it's pronounced "pyoo-AL-up".)

IRW Ael'Hatham : (Winged predator in romulan) I named my scimitar that because of the winged bird theme the romulans use. ( Scimitar class dreadnaught )

USS Crazy Horse : To reflect my native american heritage and honor a great warrior (Excelsior Retrofit )

USS Nautilus : To commemorate the first nuclear powered submarine ( Intrepid class science vessel )

USS Yorktown : Idk its a cool name for a Galaxy-x dont you think? ( Galaxy -X dreadnaiught )

IKS Golden Hinde : Its an orion marauder class...so i named it after a famed pirate ship (Marauder class flight deck cruiser )

USS Kitteh Litter ....I bought an atrox ( Atrox carrier )

USS Shamu....I bought an oddy pack while i was drunk ( Odyssey class whale..i mean cruiser )

Well kiddies thats all i can remember off the top of my head

Lets see:

I.K.S. T'Rex - Fleet Tor'kaht
I.K.S. Mosa'saur - Mirror Vo'quv carrier
I.K.S. Jormungandr - Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier
I.K.S. Co'bra - Mirror Qin Raptor
I.K.S. Mom'ba - Heghta Bird of Prey (Haj skin)
I.K.S. Ge'cko - To'duj fighter

To be added (bought):

I.K.S. K'roc - Jem'Hadar Heavy Escort Carrier
I.K.S. Plio'saur - Bortasqu' Battlecruiser

Why all the reptile names? First, I'm Gorn (in real life) second, I'm a geology major (in game...wait a second). One of the Geologist Commandments is to know dinosaurs better than every 8-year-old on earth. Once I run out of cool reptile names, I'll move into monsters from Norse myth, like I did with my Jem Dread.

# 417 My "Fleet" of Ships
09-10-2013, 10:06 PM
Okay, I'll give you just my very first toon's ships and I'll give you the other 3 toons on down the road:

Flagship: U.S.S. CENTENNIAL (Odyssey Science Cruiser)

Current ride: U.S.S. Black Hole (Fleet Deep Space Science Vessel)
U.S.S. Shadowchaser (Caitian Atrox Carrier--cool name, huh?)
U.S.S. Centaur (Galaxy class cruiser; support vessel) name derived from Greek mythology
U.S.S. Vanguard (Exploration Cruiser Refit) once again, cool name, huh?
U.S.S. Sentinel (Star Cruiser) Means "to guard over, as a sentry" Italian origin
U.S.S. Timestopper (Wells Temporal Science Vessel) the name kinda says it all, huh?
My three Vesta multi-mission Explorers:
U.S.S. Achilles (Reconnaissance)
U.S.S. Mercury (Strategic)
U.S.S. Olympus (Surveillance) all 3 names of Greek mythology people or places

Small craft:
U.S.S. Crusher (Aeon Timeship) named after Beverly or Wesley, take your pick
U.S.S. Bacco (Yellowstone runabout freebie) named after a former UFP President

and that's all for now. I will post my KDF and Rommie character ship names some other time.

Bluegeek, this is Starfleet Command. The tachyon detection grid has detected a cloaked Necro-class thread leaving the Neutral Zone.

Yay! Another ship name thread. How many of these do we have, exactly?

Anyways:

USS Akorem - Vesta class (There's an "Akorem's Rock" on Bajor and Vesta ships are named after hills and mountains)

USS Hyperion - Excelsior Retrofit (Starcraft Shoutout)

IKS Crimson Tempest - Krenn class (a rogue skill in WoW; always loved the name)

IKS Litany of Fury - Bortasqu' class (Warhammer 40k Shoutout)

Apocrypha - Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer (because defiling a poor little Dhelan with nanoprobes is kinda wrong)

Malevolence - Obelisk Carrier (Clone Wars Shoutout)
