So, I was thinking about the possible future of ships, when I wondered...what would it be like if we gave up having any Cmdr level abilities at the gain of another Lt. Cmdr instead? Going on that, giving up like the extra ensign to make like the Lt. universal, or more preferable or something.

As an example, a cruiser-esque ship with:

Lt. Cmdr Engineer
Lt. Cmdr Engineer
Lt. Cmdr Sci or Tac
Lt Sci or Tac (whichever isn't above)

So...how does that sound? Overpowered, underpowered, decent, etc? I mean, would you be willing to lose the 'big' Cmdr slot on a ship, while gaining another Lt. Cmdr.

Say, the Multi-vector had this...

Lt. Cmdr Tac
Lt. Cmdr Tac
Lt. Cmdr Sci
Lt. Engineer

So you still get 6 good tactical abilities, while keeping the Lt. Cmdr sci the MVAE has, and getting rid of that ensign tac and giving up the Cmdr level ability.

Teri-bad idea, IMHO. If for nothing else, because you would, in one foul swoop, effectively take ALL Commander boff skills out of the game!

How would you take them out of the game if only some ships didn't have CMDR boff slots?

I dont think it'd work with established ships , but could potentialy work with some new ones

No, taking from above with your MVAM idea, it should be this instead:

Cmdr Tac
Lt. Cmdr Tac
Lt. Cmdr Sci
Lt. Cmdr Eng

Maybe make either the Cmdr or Lt Cmdr tac a universal slot

This is pretty much what I was meaning. I was giving the Multi-Vector only as an example, not as a sweeping change for every ship.

So pretty much the first ship BOFF layout would be how it could work out. A greater amount of versatility for that ship, at the cost of having no big Cmdr slot, and possibly no extra ensign.

As a escort flyin tac i rely on omega 3. No commander no omega 3.

Im not sure about the other jobs but thats a deal breaker for me.

Actually, there is a Fleet BoP with 1 CMDR 2 LTC and 1 LT Universal Slot positions. So it's not too far to imagine that Cryptic could go with such a configuration someday.

Ok, that's perfectly alright, you wouldn't have to fly this ship of course. I'm only putting out other ideas for a more versatile ship, at the cost of a lack of Cmdr seat.

Yeah, the super-squishy Fleet Ning'tao, if memory serves. That was part of where I got this idea from. Maybe not a pure Universal set-up like a BoP, but 3 Lt. Cmdr seats would make a very interesting build.

I thought so a long time ago as well.

Perhaps thats what they could be doing with the Vesta? Since its going to have canons, and people were wondering if she is a Cruiser or Science ship. Well with a LTC Tac, LTC Eng, and LTC Sci, with LT Bo Slots, it wouldn't necessarily be overpowered. Especially if it has a slow turn radius. So while the Ningtao lost HPs for a LTC slot, the Vesta would lose manuverability and have somewhat a soft shell as well.

That or perhaps Cryptic could reserve the 3 LTC stations for the Ambassador or one of the yet added canonical ships, like the New Orleans?
