quality article! i like the perspective...im sure those who are hoping to avoid combat probably wont dig this one too much...but the best point of the whole article, is the very last sentence

lets worry about whether the game will be good or not

i think star trek online is doing a great job of putting combat in while keeping the important issues quality that the shows had. those people who hate the combat part... they are completely weak (hey i like the important issues much more than the average person).

It's like owning a PS2, and telling someone who has been gaming since the Atari 2600 or NES. They are not gamers because they don't believe graphics is more important then game play. Since that is the new standard.
Personally I can care less that they are milking the combat part of this game. If you are going to sale this. You need to show the most exciting part off. Like in a movie trailer. I just hope in the future people think before they make dumb statements.
The point in time that somebody started watching Star Trek is irrelevant, because they can always go back and watch what they "missed". The length of time somebody has been watching has nothing to do with how much of a "true fan" they are. Since conflict is such a large part of Star Trek, it follows that being against a conflict focus means that one is only a fan of the part of Star Trek that they like - not a "Star Trek fan" in its truest, most universal sense, whether you started watching during TOS or during DS9. Bringing age and length of time into the mix when talking about Star Trek fandom and what it means is unnecessary and trivial.

I love the article, the writer makes a lot of valid points. Though a lot of those point really shouldn't have needed to be pointed out.

The author has not understood what star trek really stands for and i think he must have seen star wars or bsg instead of star trek or maybe he is simply retarded.

I'm realy astonished how many of you think this is a great article and my whish for more then one server has become bigger then ever.

and by the way i'm not against cryptics focus on combat this is simply a compromise to playability, fun and the game type MMO.
