I was wondering what people's thoughts were regarding the title?

Specifically the following comparisons in regards to team contribution effectiveness.

FSC vs SO

and

FSC vs SO (in chevron mode)

On a side note, those healboats vs a tacc'ed out dpsking bugship. A problem I have is mantaining a single shield facing against the onslaught. Of course team aid does help, but let's say this is a 1v1 scenario... because in some cases with some dps bug players, it doesnt matter if you're on a team or not. Tactics? Suggestions? (without fully gimping an team contributions I could give if possible).

tholian carrier has the best healing potenial because it can have free repair drones in addition to all its other stuff.

the orb weaver could even give the oddy a run for its money in the healing department depending on how you bo load it.

as for facing a bugship 1v1, take a science ship and vm/subnuc the crap out of him and then kill'm right back.

Buddy, you know the answer to your question.

The oddy rules amongst the nonlockbox class of ships.

You're just asking the answer in the vain hope that you're wrong.

You're not.

I don't say this because i love the oddy's look. I find it a little weird looking and I miss my sov but the universal ltcmdr and ensign slot are just too lovely to give up.

For one, any great setup you make on the fleet star cruiser can be copied and pasted on the odd. That alone would seem to win the argument but what really put the oddy ahead of the SC is the ability to have a sci station there allows you to bring great sci powers like ST3 HE3 or TSS3 into play all of which don't share a cooldown with the Aux2sif, extends and epts you'll undoubtedly have in the cmdr slot..

The only argument for using the SC would have to center on how useful you find ET3. I personally think its an overrated and terrible power. But if you believe in it, maybe there is an argument for having a ltcmdr engineer for it. Of course, once again you could run the same build on the oddy....

* editted it so it correctly said ST3 and HE3

ST4? HE4? There is another level of BOFF skills or something?

I think it's pretty good. Clear and concise.

I find the single most useful tactic in maintaining healthy shields is found in a two prong approach, especially in a Cruiser verses Bug Ship one verses one match or any good High DPS roller verses cruiser match.
Therefore: I will gladly share my trade secrets and survival tips right now with you who might read on.

The first most important favor you can do for yourself is you must have a single copy of Tactical Team I. However, that alone will not save you from losing a shield facing. The important thing to consider is uptime; you desperately need to have excellent uptime on the tactical team ability in order to effectively maintain shield strength. So how can you achieve this without a major sacrifice, such as running two copies of the ability? The answer is simply to assign two very rare conn officers that reduce the recharge time of tactical team by 8 seconds each. This will allow you to use tactical team every 15 seconds at the cost of two duty officer.

Now, that is an improvement but you still have a problem. There is an entire 5 second period in which the escort can still possibly tear down a shield facing. So what to do? You have a few options really but one of my favorite options is to simply use Tractor Beam Repulsers to push him away from my ship. Cannon weapons damage decreases past 5km. This will help mitigate the damage being dealt to your ship. There are many other things you can do as well, but the cheapest is to use an engine battery and evasive to spread the damage to another shield facing.

I've always been a Star Cruiser fan ever since the release, however I haven't used one since more than one and a half year ago. Since I was more or less fed up with my Atrox and the Excelsior felt worse than ever with my Engineer, I bought the new Fleet Star Cruiser mostly for nostalgic reasons.

However it seems pretty clear which ship is better:
As already stated the Science Oddy can virtually copy the FSC completely. The console layout is the same, thanks to the Universal BO stations you can also copy those layouts. While the FSC has a slightly better hull, the Oddy has a tad better shielding (.05 modifier).

If this wasn't enough, there are even more points to come. IMO the FSC is an awesome hull-healer, however when it comes to shield healing, it suffers a bit.
The Sci-Oddy however can get around this by using the Lt-Cmdr. Universal station with a Sci BO. This way you'll get ST3 (which you use with two purple ST Doffs). ST3, especially buffed by consoles, simply is the most awesome shield heal out there IMO. Backed up by ES3 you'll have on the Cmdr. Engineering station, it should be an ease to keep peoples shields up. Since ST also clears those nasty Sci debuffs, it becomes even more usefull. You can then add either TSS2 for even more shielding or HE2 for hull healing in the mix.
Add two copies of EPtS1, RSP1 and ASIF2 and you are pretty much set up for a flexible heal boat. You'll boast a ton of shield healing power, while still being able to maintain a frequent amount of hull fixing.

The FSC on the other hand can't do this. You're limited to your Engi stations. So you're either off with using ET3 or sticking with ST2. With this I want to say you use either ET or ST Doffs to keep the CD low. Using ST2 like that, which is what I am doing right now, it feels kinda awkward - like a crippled ship. You can have a higher Tier abilitly buffed by Doffs but that one is less usefull. I mean ET3 is a great hull heal for itself, but the secondary effect is much less useful compared to ST.
Also when it comes down you'll constantly need to hull heal, I think there might be something wrong with the team itself. At least this is my experience with PUGing.

Most benefit of the FSC would be the price tag:
If you don't want to buy Zen, you can get Fleet Modules for around 4 million ECs ingame. If you want to spend Zen, you'll save yourself a few bucks since the FSC costs "just" 2000 Zen worth, while Cryptic charges 2500 for the Oddy.

Bottom line however is, sadly, the Oddy simply looks like the better deal. FSC only gets interesting if you like the ships appearence and/or want to get a new ship as cheap as only possible.
