You can place dreadnoughts, a battleship group with 4 or 5 people spawns one. What we need is documentation as to which red dots in each group spawn when. Being able to set the attitude (hostile/neutral/friendly) of any object would allow you to drop in a single ship though.
The two other points cover "flavor" of different mobs. While I agree that the armament, skills and AI of mobs should change with their skin (in effect replacing the ship in a group, not just the way it looks), I disagree with altering the flavor of individual mobs.
