# 1 A few more questions...
09-14-2012, 01:53 AM
Hi all, I have some questions I would appreciate answers to. Am struggling to navigate my way around to find them.

When I am using my crew for duty officer I am assuming they will then not show as available for an assignment? Only those doing nothing will show up for use?

How do I use the Alpha attack pattern? I have used my skill points but I have no button or option to use the pattern?

I am level 9 but at the moment know nothing about dilithium, how do I find out how much I have and how do I refine the ore? Is the a mission or tutorial I should be doing to learn.

No doubt I will have more questions so will keep them to this thread. Again, many thanks.

Yes. When picking DO assignments only available DOFFs will show up on the list.

APA is a Tactical Captain's Skill. Only Tactical Captain's get it, and they don't get it until Level 8. If your Tac Captain you might need to load it into the Power Tray yourself - it might not have auto-loaded.

You can see how much Dilithium you have by bringing up your Inventory window and then clicking the Assets tab at the top.

I should add that you only earn Diltihium by doing events and Missions which pay Dilithium. Things like the Foundry Daily, or the Exploration Daily, or Academy Event, and so on.

That's nearly an impossible question to answer for new players. As a Tac Captain you'll get the most offensive power out of an Escort, but many players can't really fly Escorts.

Escorts don't work like the Miranda you had at T1. There's no flying in circles around a foe and pew-pewing each other until the other guy is dead. Escorts are get in, get out ships. You fly in with some speed to take advantage of defense buffs, shoot all your weapons head-on, and then get the heck out of there and set up for another pass if you didn't kill them in the first - as Escort Shields and Hull are weak and can't take a lot of damage.

A lot of players really can't get the knack of that, and then blame the ship for the problem: often seen in various Escorts suck and need a redesign threads.

If you have Dilithium to blow and can afford to buy an extra ship I'd say try 2 or 3 ships at T2. That way you know what type of player you are by the time you get to your T3 ship - and can focus your efforts in that direction for T3, T4, and T5.

Another question, I have just got gold. How do I tell I am now a gold player? What should I look for or do? Thanks again.

Well, as a Gold player when you click on My Account at the top of the website it should say Subscription Status: Active. It will stay Active as long as you keep paying your Sub Fee.

Sometime today, or in the next few days, you will also see 500 Zen added to your C-Store account. You can only see that balance added via the C-Store in-game or on the website.

You should also see that you now have an extra Character Slot to build a 3rd character, but since you're still on your first that's probably not all that noticeable to you yet.

You will notice your Inventory Slots will increase at each Rank-up, and you will have more BOFF choices as you get higher Rank as well.

Those are about the only things you'll really notice, IIRC.

Thanks, thought I would give the gold a try while on offer and I am playing a lot until my leave from work finishes.

How do I upgrade my ship? Buy new weapons and things or do I only get them from missions. Wanting to get the best out of my ship. I am going to go for the cruiser tier 2 as your description helped. I tend to get hit lots and slog it out so the cruiser sounds more suited.

I generally don't recommend people buy things for their ships until they get to T5. The reason for this is that leveling is very fast in STO and you'll be Commander and ready for your T3 ship before you've even had time to settle into your T2 ship. Unless you're really into PvP, where having the best gear at each Rank matters, you can get by quite well just from the drops you get doing various Missions. It also gives you a chance to start saving up your Dilithium for other things you might want at later Ranks or from the C-Store.

You can buy equipment with Dilithium from the Dilithium store, or with Energy Credits on the Exchange ("Common" white weapons for each tier tend to be quite cheap) or get them as drops from repeatable missions. At endgame, you'll probably get them from the STF Vendor on DS9 in exchange for drops.

Thanks guys, next question. Now got my Lt Cmdr rank and cruiser ship. I am not faced with promoting someone. How do I make this selection. Also, what difference does the First Officer selection make?

Finally, can I have more than one Lt in order to try out both of their secondary powers. In my cruiser I only have space for one Lt. Thought I would promote them both and alternate to see which I like most.
