The OP by sheer versatility one. the Catapult of course.

Give her an XL engine after your first few matches (I recommend staying with the standard engine for a good while till you get used to playing), and up her armor if you plan on fighting in the thick of it at all.

The foundercat is a great versatile chassis I've found. Can go either long (my Long range variant is 2 large lasers 2 LRM10s), or short, (my shorty has 2 flamers, 2 medium pulse lasers, and 2 SRM6s), or medium ranged.

yeah I love my lrm kitty and k2 (catapult frame). It's really hard for me to adjust being in the background all the time still, the playstyle is quite different than my STO escorts. For you perhaps also consider a hunchback (it's a medium weight mech and considered a fast attack soldier), and after sometime modify it up. They just did an economy revision that creates a little more grind than people are liking, so upgrades for newbies take a while.

Ive settled in with 2 lrm10's, and 4 mediums. Im using 11 heatsinks to keep my lasers rolling, and the rest armor. I tried the large laser setup, but kept getting rushed to quickly. I find the mediums to be a better fit for the range im fighting once i let loose all my missiles. So far, it seems to be doing well.

should i invest in an anti-missile system (AMS )?
