# 1 Unplayable amount of lag
09-12-2013, 09:57 PM
All week (before and after maintenance) I have been getting unplayable amounts of lag starting around 2300 Central US time. I enter a planet, server not responding, I leave the planet, server not responding, try to warp to another zone, rubber band for 5 minutes before the warp button appears. Anyone else?

Yes. Yes i have.

And no just trying to zip about in space.

In STFs, standing there doing NOTHING. Server not responding, massive lag, you name it.

And normally my internet and machine run just fine.

Could be too much server traffic, as not only is the server running STO it is also running NeverWinter if i remember correctly.

Suffice it to say, it does make the game unplayable when you cannot do anything, and cannot even just stand there without getting lag and server not responding.
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!

I've noticed this too. It seems to affect me for just about half an hour, usually between 2200 and 0100 PDT. It's very irritating to get SNRd and DCd constantly while I'm trying to play at what is often the only time I can. The good news is that it does seem to clear up after 20-40mins.

Strange, I haven't had any problems at all playing STFs this evening, so theirs nothing wrong with the STO servers. The most likely cause for this issues would be localized ISP related network congestion problems...

Do you uses Verizon as an Internet provider. I know Verizon and a company an Internet routing company are at each other necks. I suggest finding a free trace route program and see where you are haveing packet loss. I have friend I play with that get routed through Boston and have major packet loss there. They have to create a private virtual network to connect.

# 6 Lag?

I get the rubber banding sometimes, but the server not responding is caused by downloading new files, which i think you can turn off in the launcher some where...

I am a player in UK, and the times you mention correspond to lags I get over here. This usually however only happens to me on Tuesdays, no other day of the week seems to be effected at all. Again for me it usually lasts 40 minutes or so then clears up.

Seems like Tuesdays is when companies that use your ISP (or their Trans-Atlantic cable connections) for their weekly data backups...

I checked it out with my ISP and they confirmed that no it wasn't anything they were doing. I always check out all possibilities prior to submitting anything in relation to connectivity.

I am sure you would agree it is all to easy to lay blame with something that appears to be at fault when it could very well not be.

I have read too many times on here people having issues with STO and laying blame with PWE/Cryptic for the issues, then someone posts a fix, and the OP is like ohhh yeah that's fixed it. Thank you. Alot of the times issues lie with personal system configurations, and not the game. That is why (for me anyway) to explore every avenue.

A prime example of this, originally I had so many graphics issues with STO. The game in the beginning looked rubbish. I knew how to configure I would say 90% of the graphics, but some things just didn't look as they should do, so instead of blaming Cryptic for a game with rubbish graphics. I searched online for possible solutions, and hey presto my graphics are now ohhh so sweet.

Touch wood (touches head) I haven't actually had any disconnection, lag issues with STO now for about three or so weeks.

I just found it odd that the times (albeit not the day) seemed to correspond with time over here.
