# 1 Nebula Class, worth it?
09-23-2012, 09:39 AM
Hello,

After reading the forums, I am under the impression that the Fleet Nebula Class ship is not a viable ship to purchase as a T5 Vessel. I would want to use it for STF and PVP.
From what I understand, it has been nerfed beyound reasonable functioning.

If this is so, and outside of the Atrox Carrier, what is the best T5 Sci ship to use?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

The nebula, whether discussing the t5 or the fleet version, is essentially a support ship. So if you are looking for a support ship for pvp or stfs then yes, it is a great ship; probably the best support ship in the game. The Fleet version comes with an extra console slot and hull as compared to the c-store version, which can make it even better for support.

If you are looking at for a dps combat ship then the nebula should not be your first choice. The atrox is much more offensive in nature.

the nebula itself was not nerfed, sci ships in general are hard to make use of...don't say they can't be good, just saying they are not as easy as cruiser and escorts.

nebula itself is appart from the oddy, atrox and one or two i can't name right now, one of the best support ships, still.

it's just no point to buy that ship if you could buy an oddy cruiser. But with the fleet version now we may see more of them again.
The nebula itself is the tankiest of the sci vessels, which kind of makes it ideal for PVP.
The universal LTD boff slot makes it very versatile (for stfs you might wanna slot a tactical boff)

but the better investment probabaly is the atrox or oddy, atleast i think so.

It isn't so much the ship itself, but the console that it comes with. Those have long since been made worthless (outside of the occasional griefer).

Firstly you haven't told us your character profession, tactical and science can both use the ship equally well for opposite ends of the combat spectrum.

If you are running a science character looking for a support/tank role I'd advise this over the cruisers that have been suggested, it's Manoeuvrability will give you the ability to give escorts and the slower of the cruisers hell while being able to change your facing shield more easily than them.

If you are running a tactical character you will be able to push fair damage out of the ship, your damage buffs combined with science debuffs makes for a nasty ship (much like science in an escort) so there is that to consider

The Atrox is a nasty piece of work but due to its design you either sacrifice your science powers to do damage on your own or sacrifice damage potential to have your science stuff.

Engineers could make these work but not as well as either of the other professions.

care to explain how you came to this conclusion? To have a ship doesn't necessarely makes somebody an expert or an objective reviewer on the subject. So what exactly"sucks" about the nebula in your opinion?

The D'Kyr is a better support ship and a better Science ship altogether than the Nebula. Its Tal'Kyr alone is an intense healer and a great value because you get that as a shuttle as well.

The Atrox is a Carrier and it can be very deadly thanks to its ships. Advanced Stalkers + Advanced Runabouts hold and shield strip like MAD. Adv Peregrines make short work of shieldless Borg structures. Meanwhile the Atrox can Tank like crazy. So in a lot of ways it is even better than D'Kyr BUT it is far less maneuverable and cannot keep up with fast moving friendlies.

The Odyssey can also be a great support ship with its Work Bees and everything else but it is a big clunky cruiser and unless you are a Tactical in the Tactical Odyssey you are not going to deal much damage with it.

So the Atrox tends to be the best being able to deal damage AND be a Support ship whereas the D'Kyr is an awesome straight up support ship with a great shuttle combo while the Odyssey is an extremely tough Support Ship that may disappoint you in the end for this purpose.

As a long time Nebbie pilot the quote above shows you that the nebbie is still ok, but at every single thing it does, some other ship does it better.

The Nebula is really not that bad. I actually like my nebula alot, and spend most of my time in it, even in elite pugs. One of the few ships that lets you run a commander science and a lt commander engineer. I love to run EWP and either Grav Well or Tyken for STFs. It gives alot of flexibility in STFs, and I feel very useful CC wise and I even feel like I do an ok amount of damage. Sure my HEC does more damage, but that is a different playstyle. Plus I just love the look of the ship. I will own a fleet Nebula as soon as I can talk myself into dropping some more cash on the game. And for the cost of only 1 fleet ship thingy, why not? Actually come to think of it, the Fleet HEC is only 1 also, so I can have 2 ships for less $$ than any other .

My second favorite ship at the moment is the Heavy Escort Carrier. Nice damage, and can still equip EWP. EWP is one of my favorite skills for pve.

In PVP? Eh, I just recently got back into the game, so I've not ventured back into that just yet, but I used to do quite well in the nebula. That was pre sci nerf though...
