After the long discussion about the Energy Weapons Duty Officer with the Programmed Random Occurrence [PROC] of the Science Profession Career paths Sub Nuclear Beam; it had occurred to me that perhaps giving players the ability to remove buffs from players is not an entirely terrible idea. Although, Cryptic has gone about it in a completely un-gratifying, un-skilled and game breaking way, I do however think that we might be able to pursue a more desirable outcome that would require the player to use skillful decision making.

I would like to see the Beam Target Subsystem abilities fill the roll of removing buffs from their targets. In doing so, Science vessels will receive a much needed buff in both PVE and PVP without creating more ridiculous and broken abilities like the reverse time ability soon to come and ruin our PVP fun.

Beam Target Weapons could remove a random active weapon buff, beam target shields could remove a random active shield buff, beam target auxiliary could remove an active random auxiliary related buff like EPTA or PH or AUX-SIF and finally beam target engines could instead place EM or EPTE on cool-down.

Anyone think these changes are viable?

No thanks.

I hate the idea of random removal. It's bad enough on a doff that people have to pay for, but to bring it to a power that anyone can slot?

PvE is a joke.

I've done STFs in DSSVs (with an aux healing setup with minimal offense) and outdamaged fail escorts in it and done well in Elite ones.

Target subsystems does need to be boosted, but not like this I don't think. It's my opinion that something innate to the science vessel shouldn't be that powerful. However, I do believe that energy drain should be buffed slightly, because at the moment target subsystems is ONLY useful for the 20% chance of shutting down the subsystem, NOT for the subsystem energy drain, which is so minuscule as to be utterly useless, even if you are specced into Flow Capacitors.

I wish there were other alternatives than just removing buffs. Atm buffs are extremely uncounterable by anything other than SNB or buff removal doffs. This leaves teams who do not have this single solution without any way to get through stacking mitigation.

On the other hand, teams without stacking mitigation get even more facerolled thanks to complete stripping of limited mitigation...

...What to do? This proposal does not give any more solutions to the problem because it offers a class which can already remove all buffs in one shot more ways to do the same, whereas teams without any Sci are left again without a solution.

Huh? Tactical in Science Vessel cannot currently remove any buffs. Only Science Captain can remove buffs... well... until these stupid SNB D-OFFs.

It was just a quick idea and well... I don't agree with what you are saying because you are confusing Science Captain with Science ship.

I like the idea personally. I think that this should be implemented as well as a buff to energy drains. However a buffed TR 3 takes all my engineers power from all subsystems despite all my efforts to counter it, the only method I have that works is to hit the evasives and run away from the thing so not all energy drain is useless. That said however I do find target subsystem drain to be ineffective and think not only should it be buffed in general but that T5 sci ships should get lvl 2 in target subsystem as they are the most advanced ones in the game (not counting P2W)
