Ok i'm a tactical captain and after using a patrol escort for a while i went and bought a advanced escort, because i wanted to try it. I love this thing its way better than the patrol to me at least. Though i really like this ship I also cant wait for the fleet defiant its one of my fav ships. I cant wait to finally use it and put the best weapons on it for pvp. But the problem i have noticed is that the fleet patrol gets a universal ensign which to me it doesn't need but allows for more diversity, while the FAE and the FTER get tactical ensigns when they need universal the most. Especially the fleet defiant cause its notorious for being a "glass cannon" in some ways. Heck a HazEm or sci team, emergency power to engines would be nice to use in a tight spot right? Even if its only level one. Cause beam target shields is not something I use and torpedo high yield 1 would be what i would put in the tactical ensign slot., anyway and its good but a hull heal on shield heal would be better. Thats the end of my mini rant just thought i would share does anyone agree with me??

I must also acknowledge the fact that the escort retrofit and its fleet version and the aquarius have been given a plus one turn rate. Not much in my opinion but its something.. they should give them slighty stronger shlields. They are not meant to tank but the ships should put some hurt on u before they go kaboom.

when i first saw the fleet ships, i thought the same. But as i have been playing both the fleet patrol and the fleet tactical escort retrofit, i have to say they don't need it.
the universal ensign makes the fleet patrol uique, and definately one of the best escorts for any class.
The fleet escort refit has it's place too, but to be honest is still gimped with that 30k hull, even if it got 18 turnrate now. (atleast they did something for it)

both the defiant and the fleet advanced have their specialisation in other parts, which make more than up for the missing universal ensign.
yes you need to pick up either a DBB for BO, or a torpedo tube to make use of the 3rd ensign, but that sets those ships appart from the others + the multivector or the cloak.

PS: while i can see the escort refit being ok with 18 turnrate (19 would have been perfect), i can't see why the aquarius is still gimped with 18! that ship is basically build like BoP without a battlecloak, and with much less turnrate...that ship should have 22 turnrate, period.
Go pro or go home

Sorry, but no. The Defiant and MVAE, especially Fleet ones, has a lot going for them already:

1. The hull and shield upgrades from the normal VA level ship.
2. The fact it only costs ONE module for most people, while the Fleet Patrol is ALWAYS 4.
3. It can potentially cloak (for Defiant), or use Multi-Vector mode (for Advanced Escort)
4. 5 tactical console slots (for both ships)

I'm probably missing something here, but still, that's a LOT of advantages they both have compared to the Patrol, which has a bit more hull and such, but it means very little, so letting it have an ensign universal, gives it SOME extra advantage compared to the other two.

Honestly what I consider more needed is the missing boff layout of the actual Advanced Escort. Even as an owner of the MVAE I much prefer the AE layout and equip my MVAE console when I want to use the ability. But while the boff layout of the Patrol Escort was at least put onto another fleet retrofit, the Advanced Escort's was not, eliminating the layout option for anyone seeking to maximize their escort's DPS.

No, it wasn't. Hermes-F, put a Sci Ensign=old Prometheus layout, albeit without the 3rd Field Gen.

I agree and here's why: I find the ensign tact slot on either ship utterly useless. I use two blue Conn officers to lower the CD time for TT1, which also boost attack patterns, so I don't need two TT1s. I would, however, love to slot 2xEPtSs1 and RSP. That's how I run my Fleet Patrol Escort, and that thing is a survivor. Lord knows the Fleet Tactical Escort can use all the survivability it can get. I honestly don't know why the FPE got that extra advantage over the other two fleet escorts. It was already given an extra engineering console slot. And it's a first tier ship. If any ships get extra bonuses, shouldn't it be the ones at higher tiers?

Also, the Fleet AE tact boff layout sucks regardless. Why they thought an extra ensign station was an upgrade to the original's Lt. Commander station is beyond me.

See above.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
Why the Devs can't make PvE content harder. <--- DR proved me wrong!
