I have to agree with alot of people. That trailer wasnt great. The only good thing is it didnt change my opinion one bit on the game. I still plan on getting it, and I still think it'll be great cause Cryptic has a great track record with MMORPGs. just not a great track record with trailers.
who can forget some of the bad trailers from COH or even CO. the best videos one can watch with Star Trek Online are the ones with the Developers or the interview ones because those ones are informative.
Cryptic. come on guys. you need to put out a good trailer. somthing that'll rock the pants off of everybody. I'll give you this mulligan. I know you can do better
[quote=Gauwyn_Vorec] Yeah if you want to play something that looks like it's running on the Cartoon Network. WoW graphics are outdated and garbage.
First off WoW has 11 million subscribers, One of the most popular video games in history. It is talked about in T.V. shows and movies (i.e. Stargate Atlantis, the Office, South Park just to name a few) WoW is a game companies dream cash cow that may not ever be topped,.
Next if it's graphics are outdated a bit (which I agree with) they shouldn't be equal with a game that hasn't even been released yet. City of Heroes had better graphics than Champions and sadly better than STO has shown. I just hope STO has great content and game play. I'm not playing it for it's "Cartoon Network" graphics to use your words Gauwyn_Vorec.
On the upshot my Fleet was mentioned in a Trailer, sweet!
Weren't we expecting a less combat intensive Trailer this week according to the Devs? Guess Trekkies don't need a Trailer because we will play anything with a ST label once, eh?
That Trailer was 100% combat with a dull voice over. I think they were going for war weary, and missed their target. Too bad tehy could not get the Fallout 'War never changes guy' for this viodeo I think that MMO players that enjoy war won't be convinced to buy STO from this Trailer.
On the average, war minded players are largely uncomfortable, or at least uninterested in the psychology, philosophy, and personal ramifications of war. They seem to want fun action more than a desire for introspection afterward, no offense intended mind. So perhaps Cryptic should gloss over the horrors of war and show how awesome war between previous allies is?
Few MMO combat fans really want to see the civilian men, women and children butchered/enslaved by Klingon aggression for example...which Cryptic cannot show anyway because they want to maintain a Teen Rating I suspect. So we will have light-hearted war in STO most likely...which troubles me a little. Then again it is just a game I suppose, no need to reflect the nature of war or the nature of humanity as a whole
The STO Trailers must be the first of their kind, that actually convice people NOT to buy the product. Bad voice acting and newbie machinima really doesn't cut it. Is there no money for decent PR left?
Example how to tell a story with ingame graphics::
Why not something like THAT with a character from the game?

I may be in the vocal minority, but I didn't think the WoW trailer was really that good, especially not the graphics. While I like the bright colors, the artwork was "meh" and the "story" wasn't inspiring to me at all. Different strokes for different folks.
Now the Deceived trailer is a great one, although I must admit I'm sick and tired of "evil" lightsaber weilders with metal covering them. Darth Vader: Unique. Awesome. Iconic. Greivous: rip-off prequel garbage. Malak, meh. Deceived Sith lord: copy cat.

Because I Love Star Trek so much, I will play STO with fingers crossed that it's done well.
I agree to a point. We did have a trailer with better graphics, which people then complained about because it wasn't in-game footage. There's just no pleasing some people.
I would really like for Cryptic to take a different approach to their trailers/videos. It seems like they've fallen into the "must one-up ourselves" trap. First videos showed a ship or two versus multiple ships, then we start getting more ships and more until you just can't single any out, really. I think we've seen enough Fleet Actions. What we need to see is naturally Klingon content. Why not show us a clip showing a ship exploring an undiscovered section so we can see how that works. Give us some ground footage. It doesn't have to be Feds vs Klingons, but could be helping out some natives or fighting wildlife, like white-haired spine-backed gorillas, aka mugato.

Now, that'd be funny if you made that the official hang-out for your fleet. Would be funny for a dozen player ships to be hanging out chatting when all of a sudden a Klingon invasion force comes.

Zahn's stuff I liked. I did dislike the constant "only the Jedi can save us" stories as well as each threat being greater than the last. Death Star? Ha! Let's have a Star killer. Who needs a small moon to destroy a planet when you can have a fighter destroy a solar system! Wait, the Galactic Empire surrenders (and at a stalemate, which was dumb. They should have just done a cease fire), let's bring in a species that inhabits only three systems and then they can persuade Republic citizens that the Republic is bad. Oh, that story is done, what's bigger than a threat to the Republic? A threat to the Republic from outside the galaxy! I stopped reading after the first New Jedi Order book(s). Not even sure I made it beyond the first one.
I also noticed that when women tended to write books, the jedi (usually Luke, IIRC) would get injured so that throughout the story, he had to use the force to concentrate on healing himself. It's like they couldn't figure out how to write a story with the force, but they wanted (or were required) to use a jedi.
They essentially made the story about creating a New Republic and instead of concentrating on how the alliance of planets would have cultural differences and concentrating stories on inner conflict, they had to keep going outside and making each story more threatening than the last. Very boring.
Okay, I've had enough off-topic for now. Cryptic, give us a decent non-space-no-pew-pew-debris-everywhere-trailer! With Klingons!
The only reason people still play wow is because they are:
B) Bored with nothing to do
C) Crap at every other MMORPG
E) Evil and trying to put other MMORPGS out of business by not giving them their money
F) Fat and can't make it to the shop to but a new game
G) Gay and only plays to socialise with strangers
H) Hairy paedophiles going after the children
I) Ignorant of the rest of the online world of gaming
J) Jolly and drunk all the time and don't know what their playing
N) Noobs who have just started to see why everyone else plays
The people who don't play are:
1) People with real life friends who don't all play WoW
4) People who know there are better games out there, aka WAR or CO
5) People who don't even own a computer
6) People clueless about PC gaming
7) Anyone who has any sense
By the way, i'm a rehabilitated ex WoW-addict. Been off the stuff for about a year now but few of my friends are still playing, so don't say i don't have a clue
(Search up Veto for my old guild on Nordrassil, which has gone downhill but is still good)
