Hey gang, I'm stumped. I'm having a hard time deciding what my next Escort Tier 5 ship will be. I've been really happy with all of the Escorts moving up through the ranks but, honestly, right now I'm stuck.
Tactical Retrofit, Multi-Vector Advanced, Heavy Carrier.
The Deffiant class Tactical vessel that I had as a Captain was great. The Prometheus class Advanced Escort that I have now has been a lot of fun.
My play style, thus far, I guess is probably on par with most of the community: knock down a sheild facing and pound away.
That being said, I have acquired 3 Flight Deck duty officers through DOFF missions and I'm currious to put them to use.
But I'd rather get some feedback (research) from the community before I just drop some coin on my next ship.
The Defiant-R basically has nothing to offer for PvE that your free Advanced Escort can't do, too, in fact you'll have problems finding a good use for the Ens Tac. In PvP, the option to carry a cloak makes it a very strong choice though.
The MVAE's selling point is not the multi-vector-mode (that's ... pretty "meh"), but the LCdr Sci slot - if you want an Escort with CC options, this is the one. Use of that LCdr sci is also the make-or-break, if you don't have a purpose for it, don't bother with the MVAE. Goes for PvP as well as PvE.
The Armitage is a beast. A full Escort, plus a fighter hangar. As close to overpowered as you can get. If you're not interested in the Defiant's cloak, or the MVAE's Sci abilities, then this is the recommended buy.
Note though that you don't NEED to buy any of them. The free T5 Escorts are perfectly fine for PvE content.
Well first off, I'm glad you chose escorts. They are (for me) the most fun you can have in this game, in pvp especially. As to which you should choose?
With the Tac Retrofit you get cloak! That can be fun, as you can choose when to strike your opponent (when he's weakest! :p) with a sweet alpha strike.
The MVAE looks cool and for me has a better boff layout versatility-wise and splits up, personally the splitting up put me off getting this as I prefer my ship in one piece. :]
And the Escort carrier is the beefiest, with the engi lt commander slot and obviously you can bring pets with you. (However you'll probably get some people griping if you use the danubes)
In short, cloaking alpha, splitting up tac/sci, or carrier tac/engi. If I had to choose which to recommend,Ii would go with the Esc carrier for more versatility in the long run, but its a close run thing considering the appeal of alpha striking from cloak. Hope this is at least a tiny help!
Some of my opinion is heading your way, don't duck, embrace it.
Your Ramming Speed III deals 52098 (99235) Kinetic Damage(Critical) to Remus.
I've flown the AE ever since my toon hit admiral. I bought the MVAE and moved the console over to the standard AE, as I like the heavier tactical focus of its Boff slots. Multi Vector mode can be a lot of fun. Beta Command turns your ship into something like a fighter. You can dogfight a BoP, and it packs a mean punch. This is my default. Alpha Command gets you some better survivability in cases where that's important, at the expense of losing Beta's turnrate and weapon power boosts. I generally don't care what happens to my pet vectors, if they live they live, if they die they die. It's all about what the one I'm flying can do.
Now, the main weakness is that MVA mode has a wicked cooldown. When you activate, the two options you didn't choose immediately go on 5 minute cooldown. The one you chose starts a 10 minute cooldown starting when it's deactivated. This is where the weakness comes. If you die, it cancels MVA mode. On a 10 minute cooldown, that probably means you won't get a chance to use it again in that match. This is an issue in PvP as human players know this fact, and know your separated ship is fragile, and will make a point to spoil your big ability. As a PvE ship though, it's great fun, especially once you get good enough to avoid dying while separated.
if you got the EC's for it, you could also try the new Mobius Temporal destroyer... 10 console escort that is a beast with the temporal set.
I got a mobius with the iso console and the entire Temporal Set. yes i know some people dont have it, probably wont ever get the entire set, i'd jsut like to point out with the 3rd set bonus active it makes me feel like the enemies arent even moving.
It had 4 sci and tac slots and 2 eng slots for consoles. and a universal Lt. and LtCom. sincei use iso charge i got the lt com slot with a sci with grav well and it hits everything i grav well, blows up things really fast. With the DBB of the Temporal set i can use BO to help with my alphas. BO + CRF/CSV + Grav well + Iso charge tends to kill the smaller ship groups in 1 pass, or clsoe to it.
the HEC though is pretty good too. i like it when i dont feel like playing my true carrier char.

Curse you Archived Post.... you stole all my Ideas.
Look at you, having to choose between escorts. Silly over-equipped Feddies
I personally would go with either the Defiant or the Armitage. The Defiant is nimble, packs a punch, and has the cloak. The Armitage, when equipped with Danubes, can make fellow escorts throw stuff at the screen. MVAE makes for a nice sci-heavy option, but I never personally liked it all that much.
For what it's worth, I have the MVAE and Defiant-R. While I don't use escorts much, the MVAE usually gathers dust in drydock, and my Defiant-R sates my urge. The Lt. Science slot just doesn't seem to help it out all that much, and it's a bit of a hefty trade-off for the Lt. Cmdr tac (with which I rotate CRF2 constantly).
If I were in the market for an escort right now I would seriously consider the Heavy Escort carrier, myself, but I like my Def-R quite a bit.
Also note that if you really want MVAE abilities, you can load the MVAE console in your standard Advanced Escort. The pets are a bit better than the Odyssey's pets and seem to last a little longer, but still, it's a non-fighter pet, so your mileage may vary - and may vary wildly within even your own experience. It does, however, offer some limited flexibility in terms of reconfiguring the chunk of the ship you're commanding on the fly, if nothing else.
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a z-store escort is that all 3 of those have better Fleet versions that only cost 1 fleet ship module if you already have the z-store version.
Fleet defiant gets 1 more tac console and is unlocked at t3 shipyard
Fleet Advanced escort (multivector) gets 1 more tac console too and is unlocked at t4 shipyard
Fleet heavy escort carrier gets 1 more eng console but is unlocked at t5 shipyard so long ways away
all fleet versions get increased hull/shields also.
I rank the ships utility the same way cryptic does it seems. The HEC effectively gets to use one of the best skills the MVAE gets (Tractor Beam) on top of already being just about equal. It far outpaces the other 3 Escorts if you want to PvP. If you factor out how imbalanced Danubes are each then ship has its merits.
Personally, I enjoy the utility in the MVAE. There is nothing like picking up a PUG STF and carrying it on your back. The ability to Gravity Well and do mad dps is invaluable.
