I have a suggestion for adding a new mechanic for Infected space: giving the generators around the transformers a feedback pulse effect while the sphere(normal)/ cube(elite) hovering over the respective transformer is still active. This way people have to engage the sphere/cube before attacking the generators, as well as giving people who like to hit [Beam Fire at Will] and [Cannon Scatter Volley] a reason to be cautious.

The reason I suggest this is that people who are used to normal mode use the same silly tactic of ignoring the sphere, in elite. While others are fighting the cube, there is that one person who thinks they can just do the same thing they always do, and just shoot generators. The result is a failed optional almost right off the bat.

A little surprise by having one's hull hammered by a feedback pulse would be good I think.

Agreed!

Anything to make space STFs harder, at the moment they are too easy.

Wait, you kill the spheres and then the generator? When did that start? I've been ESTF'ing a while now and it's always been "Kill the cube, take the minis to 10%, coordinate simultaneous mini drops, kill the primary generator, kill the spheres." If your group does more than throw-rocks-out-of-the-torp-tubes DPS, tanking the spheres for the 20 sec it takes to drop the generator shouldn't be that big of an issue...

In Normal mode there's a Sphere hovering over the Transformer, instead of a cube as in Elite mode, hope that clears things up for you.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, and tom61sto is correct.

This is where the problem lies. People who are used to ignoring the sphere in normal difficulty, use the same mechanic in elite...with predictable results. It's practically impossible to stop these people from doing this before they blow a generator into oblivion, once you realize there is actually someone ignoring the cube.

It's the only time that low dps is actually desirable in someone

A feedback pulse mechanic on the generators while the sphere/cube is still active would help with this, and teach people to kill the guarding ship....or have them die stupidly.

Many times I find myself explaining the mechanic to people after the match is over, and why the guardian cube has to die first. Not only is this tedious (I really should make a macro or something), but sometimes I get ignored, or the person tries to argue with me.

Also..calling someone a noob is never helpful. It usually makes a bad situation worse.

It's also the easiest way for intentional griefers to screw you over before logging. Had 2 of them do it together, spawn all the spheres before the defending sphere was barely scratched, then both of them LOGGED leaving 3 of us to finish it.

It's easier than you think, though! While I like the feedback pulse idea, all you have to do is put a round shield around them, like the one around the sphere/transformer when you first warp in and engage the patrolling cube.

Just make the shields drop when the defending sphere is dead. Make it so that sphere is projecting the shield, or whatever, so that once it's gone so is the shield.

I've seen this before too, on elite. Had a guy blow a generator early, then just sat way above the transformer while cloaked.

Your idea has merit. Having shields around the generators would prevent them from ignoring the cube/sphere, and be more friendly to people new to the STF, but wouldn't be as much fun as having a mechanic that isn't immediately visible.

Having the offender explode, while dealing little or no damage to the generator would be hilarious.
