# 1 Does no one like the Nebula ?
10-11-2012, 07:48 AM
ok now Granted the Nebula or Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit (tier 5) is a C-store ship but I was wondering why I dont see more of these Science ships in the game... I can go to the most heavily populated areas in the game and at most I see 1 or two others in that area and thats countiing me...

Is there some problem with the Nebula Retrofit that I am un-aware of ? or is it that people would rather spend thier zen points on something other than arguable the best science ship in the game... second to the Wells Class at the moment.

I have come up with Viable Builds for the retrofit and fleet versions of this ship that seem to work well... but seriously is there some problem with the nebula that I do not know about ?

^^^^^^^^^^

This, it is very simple, we have lots of ships to use, but the latest ships inserted into the systems are considered OP (more useful if you like) so everyone have to use them, call it PvP or PvE, since they have better BOFF layouts and passive abilities.

A partner of mine use (and won't change) the Nebula, you can contact him if you want to share builds, he simply loves that ship.

he is @cerritouru

The nebula is a very nice ship. The console on it is not the best by a long shot. Science is one of the hardest ships to plan for with all the changes and when looking in the c-store I'm sure a lot of people eye up the atrox.

I have an engineer in the fleet nebula and it is very tanky. I still wish I could use the venture skin on it.

Most of the Z-store ships I bought have all been the lower tiered ones Fed side but one of the T5 ships I have bought is the Neb, because as you say it is quite simply an awesome ship. I love its ruggedness and sensor analysis and any sci toon of mine will generally be seen flying either this or a D'kyr.

In fact i like the Nebula in STO better then in other games.
I really like its BOFF layout, i think it's one of the better ones in this game. It makes the ship very versatile and fun, compared to the Galaxy class for instance.

But i really HATE its looks. Since i saw it in TNG: the Wounded i think it is an exceptional ugly ship, a really bad made Galaxy Class kitbash.

Thank you for reading or ignoring, depending on who you are.

For me at least, I have never seen the "value" in the Nebby...

1. I, personally, am not a fan of the BOff layout. With only 5 "dedicated" slots, and 2 more through putting a science in the universal, the best you can wind up with is 1 Lt Cmdr and 1 Cmdr science powers, while both the Luna and DSSV (the tier-contemporaries) have LtCmdr and Cmdr Science BOffs, which let me run GW III, TSS III and Energy Syphon II...

2. It's "engineering secondaried", which (for PvE at least) is not as useful for a Sci as a tactical secondary, a well built tank or even decently built escort should be able to keep aggro better than a spiking Sci, so the engineering focuses rarely are what saves your bacon while the tactical secondary on the RSV helps the sci eek out as much DPS as possible.

3. Turn rate is poor, and since a good majority of "offensive" science powers fire off in the forward torpedo arc or need to be dropped point blank, the lack of maneuverability (unless offset with multiple RCS consoles) limits the times that the Science can use their abilities to augment damage.

4. The freebie console is very, meh. From what I hear, it doesn't work against the primary (and to the best of my knowledge only) late-game cloaker (Donatra), and for PvP I believe high perception or even the emission seeking torpedo is of greater cloak-hunting benefit than a once-every-3-minute detection.
Well, with the upgrade announcement leaving NX and Connie fans in the dust again, can we restart / revisit the T5 Connie and NX threads - since they will no longer be "truly" endgame ships... (after we get the T5 versions, it'll be time to see them added to the T5U upgrade charts too...

I'm a huge fan of the Nebula. I have a Pakled science captain that I leveled up just for that ship. The only thing I really did was take off the special console it comes with and used a few of the other science ones. The detection grid is nice, but really it's only useful in a handful of occasions. The other science consoles just seem to work better.

Anyway the Nebula is nice if you set it up right. It's really a science/cruiser hybrid. It's not fast or quick to turn, but it will lay down some pain if you are willing to work with it. I've got 3 Fed sci captains. One uses the Intrepid refit, one uses the Recon Sci, and the other uses the Nebula and I have to say the Nebula is the most fun.

I can help you out with specing it if you want just shoot me an in game message and I can see what I can do.

Though I don't use the Nebula, I use the Magellan, for one of my Sci captains, I really like the preformance on it.

Granted, I don't PvP, STF or PvE, I just do the story missions and my own thing in game.

I like the clasee in general and has a really nice turn rate compare given that it LOOKS like a cruiser.

I did finally remove the Tach filed console, as I am no longer in missions that have cloaked ships, completely forgot what I replaced it with...

But all in all I like it.

Agreed. The Nebula is stunning in how terrible it looks. I love the Galaxy-class' aesthetics. The Nebula looks like a squashed down kitbash of the Galaxy with some ugly looking doodad on top of it. It took what was a really elegant and graceful looking ship and made it ugly.
