Hi. I love this game but I can't ignore that contain some irregularity with the official Star Trek series, in particular with the galaxy map.

I know that the milky way it's too big than the game, and to go between the systems is required some time, and in the game some people don't have much more time to spend to travel in the space, in fact I will be ignore this irregularity.

But I can't ignore that the galaxy map has some difference with the original Star Trek galaxy map, especially with the systems.
In particular the number of planet system present. I'm doing a map (later I will post it) of a simple quadrant of one sector for you to see the difference between STO map and Star Trek official map.
But for now, I limit me to link to you one site to view the original Star Trek galaxy map. (required download), http://www.startrekmap.com/downloads.html

And I ask: why this difference? Why much more systems are not imported in the STO? It's ok that some systems are new in the game and not presents in the original maps (the game is located in the future) but I don't understand why some systems are not presents (for example the orion sector don't have the orion system).

What do you think cryptic? And you people?

The first question i would have is, where do these Maps from the Star Trek universe even come from? Who made that stuff and why should we accept it as the official variant that everybody has to use?

Because i can't remember seeing any such maps in the TV Show or Movies.
Have the Star Trek Authors from the shows even used these?
I doubt they've taken more than some known names from real maps, they certainly did not give a damn about speed / distance / time spend, not for the warp drive, not for subspace messages.

I assume for now that these maps are all just fan creations from the Internet and therefore simply have no relevance (no matter how precise or how much effort was put into them).

There aren't really any "official" maps.

Yes and no.
We do know which map Cryptic based their stuff on.

In addition here's an old post from Heretic where some of the Klingon allies' homeworlds are supposed to be:

I don't see any point in cluttering up STO's maps with stars we can't do missions on or even visit.

I agree. Most of the sector maps have planets that either have a one-time use in a storyline mission, or they're used for Federation patrol missions (for Federation space). There's planets in the Romulan areas that aren't used at all, as I recall, same with the Cardassian areas. Even the Omega Leonis block has a few planets that don't seem to get much use. Seems like an awful waste of creative planet names. . .

I think a more cluttered sector space with systems that have no in-game purpose would make it extremely difficult to find anything. Basically, if the system don't have a purpose, leave it out. Only add it in when it has content or some goal associated with it.

I don't know who made this map, but it's very similiar to the galaxy maps present in the book: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Star_Charts.
For example, look the sirius sector block: where are the other planets?

Not cluttering the map.
