# 1 Plz Remove Procs from Pets
10-15-2012, 07:00 PM
As in the title, it seems that pets proccing player weapon bonuses needs to be stopped or curtailed.

In pve, it doesn't matter. For pvp, it can basically amount to a free kill that takes no skill whatsoever. Specifically, for a team running all phasers on real player's ships its not an issue. If you throw 2+ carriers running danubes, and maybe an armitage that you start to see the problems. When you have that much spam throwing phaser procs you basically see them proc shields every 15 to 25 seconds. It just becomes ridiculous, and doesn't add anything to pvp gameplay other than a diceroll to see if the tacscort happens to have alpha up when the shields go offline for a cheap kill

I like player weapons having procs. The recent lockbox combos have been a lot of fun to play around with. But the possibility of pets at some point getting disrupting polarized phasers makes me a bit nauseous. I have a feeling that the current pets having procs is simply because it made programming them a bit easier. Balance wise it would be better if pets used their weapons and special abilities and not the player weapon procs like offlining subsystems.

I agree it can be overpowered at times. One problem I see arising though is it may leave some pets underpowered vs others.

For example my main ship I use with pets the Karfi and its Fer'jai frigates is while their energy weapons don't proc they benefit from crit bonus from being antiproton. Thier chroniton procs could be changed simply by giving them different torpedos though.

Where we run into problems is taking away procs from pets that use energy weapon types that do proc like disruptor, phaser or tetryon, take away their proc and they have underpowered energy weapons compared to antiprotons and giving them antiproton weapons would look out of place on Fed ships especially.

Maybe they could change pet phasers to a different proc and have them still look like phasers? Danubes/Peregrines would have to use weapons that look like phasers seeing as they are Fed NPCs

maybe as a trade off, remove the procs from their weapons and then allow them to benifit from consoles on your ship?

that way if you use phasers you can boost your pets damage, same with torpedos etc etc.

What about reducing the proc chance?

As an aside, I've always found it odd that a Standard has the same proc chance as a Mk XII. The energy drain I can see - writing that off as increased efficiency. You get more bang for your buck, so to speak.

So what about reducing the proc chance for them? Something that might balance it out based on their numbers, etc, etc ,etc.

As a second aside, mind you, I can't remember the last time it wasn't tractor or siphon spam... but of course, that kind of ties into the same problem - guppy ships doing what the whales do...

I agree that the proc chance of pets has to be reduced...but that doesnt mean that the procs need to be removed.....as i see it now, the pets proc much more often than i do when not using pets.

I think this idea would be a fair trade-off

That would be really fun, and could encourage players to use different pets other then danubes all the time, peregrines might actually be better with that.

Pets procing never made much sense... it wasn't really an issue until feds got a carrier and phaser procing pets.

Back in beta it was possible for Cryptic to change weapon colors with out effecting the procs....

Perhaps the simple fix for them would be to give all the pets AP weaponry... this will increase there dmg... and they can tune the colors on them to look faction specific.

Pets shouldn't be carrying phasers and disruptors anyway... they should be carrying lazers!

Or just give all the pets antiproton weapon stats.

How much a pet-heavy team benefits from phaser procs can't be emphasized enough! I was in a match against a extremely pet heavy team the other day, and at almost any given time during the match, 2 of my subsystems would be down. Even when I wasn't the target. And all the players and pets also used tractor beams. When I WAS the target, and got hit with VM3+doffs, and BTSSx in addition, I would sometimes sit for 3-4 minutes, in complete subsystem/target lock, unable to do anything at all. The team in question did pitiful damage, and we had some good heals, so I wouldn't even die... just sit there...and wait... :p

(I carried AP:O and PH on my escort.... Also carried eng batteries and a RMC... didn't do me any good at all...)

I suspect about half of this BS was caused by pets. (Not that the other half wouldn't be bad enough on it's own)
