So I did a test of 4 beam arrays and two dual beams+turrets, and the time it took for a single target to die seemed to be about equal, course I do most of my weapon testing on the Orion Corvettes in the Stranded In Space mission but that is the closest mission to the ESD and back so I can make fast switches to my Boffs and such. In any case, I was always under the impression that x2 Dual beams and x2 turrets would be a faster way to kill something.....so am I doing something wrong or did I just have the wrong impression?

Really depends on your tactical boff slots. If you're in a cruiser or sci ship that only has a tactical lieutenant and maybe a tactical ensign, you really want to have one weapon type like all arrays or all cannons and turrets. This is so you can specialise in beam fire at will/overload or cannon rapid fire/scatter volley. If you have beams and turrets, you have to waste two tactical boffs on different damage enhancing abilities instead of just one.

To put it simpler:

4 beam arrays + beam fire at will + tactical team

OR

2 cannons and 2 turrets + cannon rapid fire + tactical team

Are both better than

2 beam banks and 2 turrets + beam fire at will +cannon rapid fire


Now if you're flying an escort with lots of tactical boff options, use dual heavy cannons instead of beam banks.

if you go science with six weps...i have found that cannon, quantum torpedo, and dual beam bank with three turrets on the back to be an awesome alpha strike if you have attack patter beta, cannon scatter volley, torpedo spread, and beam overload.

I can burst fire and take a spawn out....by the time the boffs refresh...my next target is ready for burst fire as well.

Its pretty simple to take spawns in Elite STFs with this configuration in conjucntion with gravity well 3.

Attack pattern beta with cannon scatter volley is the key to debuffing your targets defensive capabilities with beam overload and torpedo spread to knock out the target with max crits on hull!

i was thinking about a nebula build for my engi captain. i prefer engi for sci vessels because of the possibility for consistant high energy levels, but i guess any captain would do fine.

so for estf mainly, i considered one ltd tac with tt1 and spread 2 and the secons with tt1 and APelta1

2 photon torpedo tubes 1 DBB and 3 turrets.

idea is to draw aggro with grav well 3...6 points in particle generator (+ console atleast 1) and atleast 3 in graviton generators (rest for graviton buff would come from borg deflector and borg console)

multiple spheres should now have AP:delta debuff on them while being in grav well

i'm running a similar setup on my karfi already. there it is much more potent, since the karfi has more tac slots but is weaker on the engi side.
there it is a tt1, spread2, AP:beta2 and tt1, scatter volley1 (primarely to apply beta2 on targets infront of me)
this works really, really well for estfs, but thats also because the karfi has a more favorurable setup for PVE, imho.
this one runns 2 DC+2 photon torp tubes...but the ssetup can be easily modified for beams, i just get FAW2 instead of scatter volley1.

The ship im flying is the Wells Temporal Science Vessel if that helps. But Dual beams ought to be good for something on a Science Ship, heck a friend even once said using dual beams on a sci ship is great.

If you're going to go DBB+turrets, use 3 turrets in the back, not 2. The Wells has enough maneuverability that you should be pointed at your target almost all the time, making a rear-mounted torpedo mostly useless.

Look at the last movie capt kirk blew up a Tier 10 super ship with a Tier 1 connie.


It takes more skill to give yourself some style. Any noob can blow up anything in the most souped up ship.

I set my ship up with the idea that the Borg
Will be shooting at me

With that I'n mind a focused frontal fire weapons
Layout is totally unrealistic to me

Also if I am destroyed I'n my mind the mission failed
For me

I use a torpedo front and rear and the rest are beam arrays
It's the best setup imo ,puts max firepower on target while
Giving the ship max survivability at the same time.

Leva........Tactical.....Mailu KDF Sci
