Actually... what Cryptic may be trying to do is channel more players to starbases. Think about it for a moment. We're seeing lots of starbase exhaustion and a lot of fleets are simply stopping or going at a VERY reduced speed, not to mention a lot of players simply not caring about starbases.
Because they are seeing the insane costs required to go beyond the initial tiers and the fact Season 6 added no real playable content, just Fleet Actions to grind.
Add this DOFF prices and people will not buy Zen, they will stop altogether and small Fleets will come to a halt, even players that are willing and do sink money into the game will evaluate their Zen purchases.
Starbases are one of the key long term monetization components of STO, they WANT to get everyone attached to one. These added Dil costs make it so everyone would prefer to grow their base and get doffs through fleet credits, of course you CAN get them without being in a fleet.... you would just prefer not to.
Do I need to remind you that I cannot buy a Purple off the Fleet without being at a certain Tier?
If that is their purpose then STOP CATERING TO THE MEGAFLEETS.
Those Fleets WILL reach T5 and then do nothing outside running the 30 minutes projects and the Featured Project when it comes around, they are not the "long term monetization" but so far they done all they could to push for the creation of Megafleets due to the costs involved, small Fleets will either stop or die out.
Now this chance accomplishes nothing besides HURTING smaller fleets and KILLING the Duty Officer system because nobody will bother with it, I just hope these are just placeholder costs on Tribble for testing, otherwise I predict the end of Small Fleets progression (since nobody is going to tell someone to go and spend real cash on a virtual good that is BY CHANCE) and a serious drop of players doing the Duty Officer system.
And yes, people did DOFF before the compactor but was the compactor a mistake? do this and people are going to be very unlikely to spend their Purples on the Starbases and as I am at it ... how about the effect they have on the game because they can be put on Active Duty.
Ahh, but the KDF gets contraband like crazy. Cryptic would also prefer it if you had to grind both sides, one for Dil, the other for everything else that needs Dil. Which is what a lot of people do now, except these changes would make it less profitable.
like crazy is not what i would call it... it's an OK amount but the marauding missions that give contraband have pretty harsh cooldowns,
if you try to actually grind them you will soon look around finding nothing to click for a day or so.
the contraband turn in got nerfed already some time ago, don't even think about nerfing that one further.
also it doesn't help to do lots of marauding if you only have some white doffs that keep getting KILLED by those missions, in the end you will have to get good doffs to do these and that is where the problem is in the first place.
They are driving me away from this game at an ever increasing pace.
Alas i speak for only myself.......but i suspect many will flee in exodus if this continues.
I have already stopped using the c-store permenantly...next i will just quit the game......CRYPTIC..take note....this is bad business
Napoleon's final defeat came at Waterloo. Must've been embarrassing. You're the f'ing emperor. You conquered all of Europe, only to lose in a place with a stupid name like Waterloo. Or Watergate, or Whitewater. Note to politicans: Stay on land.
Right now I use the doff grinder to get rid of 5 useless doffs and exchange them for 3 random doffs that I hope I can contribute to my base.
This whole thing would be a non-issue for me if I was able to buy doffs in specific professions at the starbase. Right now, there is a supply bottleneck of these doff types:
Operations, Science and Tactical are always supplied in abundance when you buy them for fleet credit. Cryptic has to change this. We need a vendors that sell ONLY common engineering, medical, and security doffs.
Considering doff prices were *already* too high on the exchange, this is a shocking development.
Dan Stahl said during the Raptr Q&A and on the forum they'd be making an announcement to make it easier to get dilithium (late September or early October). It's nearly the end of October and the closest thing to that was the boost to the mining event in Beta Ursae.
